Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare maintenance
schedule for civil plant, equipment, and vehicles; programme maintenance
tasks; implement maintenance schedule for plant, equipment, and vehicles;
monitor additional maintenance requirements; and describe ancillary
documentation for plant, equipment, and vehicles.

3 Definitions
Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the
company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements which may apply
across the company or to a specific site. Requirements are documented in the
company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work
programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents.
Manufacturer’s instructions may include specifications, installation, handling, use and
maintenance instructions and safety data sheets.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Prepare maintenance schedule for civil plant, equipment, and vehicles.

Performance criteria

1.1 Maintenance schedule of plant, equipment, and vehicles is documented in


accordance with company requirements.

Range may include – type of plant, equipment and vehicle; plant number;
year of manufacture; year of purchase; make; model; engine
number; chassis number; serial number; warranty period;
registration number.

1.2 Maintenance records of each vehicle, item of plant, and item of equipment are
documented in accordance with company requirements.

Range includes but is not limited to – servicing dates, repairs, rebuilds,


hours of operation and/or distance travelled.

1.3 Routine servicing requirements for each item of plant, item of equipment, and
vehicle are documented in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and
company requirements.

Element 2

Programme maintenance tasks.

Performance criteria

2.1 Resources available to carry out maintenance are determined in accordance


with company requirements.

2.2 Routine servicing is programmed using maintenance schedule and plant


condition reports.

Element 3

Implement maintenance schedule for plant, equipment, and vehicles.

Performance criteria

3.1 Implementation ensures that scheduled maintenance is carried out on plant,


equipment, and vehicles in accordance with company requirements.

3.2 Maintenance schedule compliance is monitored and recorded in accordance


with company requirements.

3.3 Timing for servicing is negotiated with operations staff in accordance with
company requirements.

3.4 Plant repairs are scheduled to fit in with operational requirements in accordance
with company requirements.

3.5 Resources for service and repair are identified and matched to required
outcomes in accordance with company requirements.

Element 4

Monitor additional maintenance requirements.

Performance criteria

4.1 Potential additional maintenance is evaluated in accordance with company


requirements.

Range may include – condition inspection, operator-reported defects,


visual inspection.

4.2 Reports of the condition of plant, equipment, and vehicles are prepared in
accordance with company requirements.

4.3 Plant records are updated in accordance with company requirements.

Element 5

Describe ancillary documentation for plant, equipment, and vehicles.

Performance criteria

5.1 Description identifies plant, equipment, and vehicle insurance policies, cover,
and conditions in accordance with company requirements.

5.2 Description identifies procedures for insurance claim for accident, and insurance
claim for mechanical failure, in accordance with company requirements.

Range includes but is not limited to – accident investigation, notifying


assessor, pre-accident value, agreeing remedial action.

5.3 Description identifies documentation for monitoring repairs in accordance with


company requirements.

5.4 Description identifies documentation for updating plant records in accordance


with company requirements.

5.5 Description identifies documentation relating to service contracts in accordance


with company requirements.

Please note

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body


with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before


they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP
also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to
develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and
assessors, and special resource requirements.
