Question 8:
Question 9:
Calculate the flow rate in a horizontal reservoir 5000 ft long, having absolute
permeability of 30 md. The reservoir is 1000 ft wide and has 20 ft net pay. The oil in the
reservoir has a viscosity of 2 cp. The pressure at the right end is 2500 psia and the
pressure at the left end is 1200 psia.

SOLUTION
1. Comprehension and analysis of the statement of the problem:
Calculate the flow rate (  q  ? RB/D) in a horizontal reservoir 5000 ft long ( 
L  5000 ft), having absolute permeability of 30 md (  k  30 md). The reservoir is
1000 ft wide and has 20 ft net pay (  A  1000 20 ft2). The oil in the reservoir has
a viscosity of 2 cp (    2 cp). The pressure at the right end is 2500 psia ( 
pL  pup  2500 psia) and the pressure at the left end is 1200 psia ( 
pR  pdn  1200 psia).
2. Solution:
(  The problem uses field units).
kA p kA ( pup  pdn )
q  c  c .
 L  L

Question 10:
A sample of reservoir liquid with volume of 400 cc under reservoir conditions was passed
through a separator and into a stock tank at atmospheric pressure and 600F.

The liquid volume in the stock tank was 274 cc. A total of 1.21 scf of gas was released.

RS = Volume of gas produced at surface at standard conditions

Volume of oil entering stock tank at standard conditions

Calculate the solution gas oil ratio.

Question 12:
An oil-water reservoir extends over 16,000 acres and has average net thickness of
32 ft. Reservoir average porosity is 22%. Average oil saturation is estimated at
80%. Oil formation-volume-factor at initial pressure is 1.23 RB/STB. Estimate the
initial oil-in-place in this reservoir.

SOLUTION
1. Comprehension and analysis of the statement of the problem:
An oil-water reservoir extends over 16,000 acres (  A  16000 acres) and has
average net thickness of 32 ft (  h  32 ft). Reservoir average porosity is 22% ( 
  0.22 ). Average oil saturation is estimated at 80% (  So  0.80 ). Oil formation-
volume-factor at initial pressure is 1.23 RB/STB (  Bo  1.23 RB/STB). Estimate
the initial oil-in-place in this reservoir (  N  ? STB).

2. Solution:
N  7758AhSo / Bo .

N  7758 16000  32  0.22  0.80 /1.23  56.837 106 STB.

Question 13:

Solution

Bulk volume = π r2 L = π *( ) *(4*2.54) = 115.83 cc

Grain density = 2.65 gm/cc

Volume = mass/ density = 160 (gm) / 2.65 (gm/cc) = 60.377 cc
Pore volume = 115.83 – 60.377 = 55.453
Porosity = pore volume / bulk volume = 55.45/115.83 = 0.48 = 48%
