1. Explain the characteristics that distinguish a milling process from other machine process.
2. Differentiate between reaming and boring.
3. Explain the tapping process.
4. How can drills classified.
5. What is counter boring and counter sinking.

SECTION C
Attempt any TWO questions. Each question carries 5 marks. (5*2=10)
1. What is spot facing? Elaborate its importance
2. A 100 mm diameter cutter having 8 teeth is cutting steel at 30m/min. the depth of cut is taken as
4mm and the table feed rate is 150 mm/min. the width of the work piece is 120mm. find the mean
area of cross-section of the chip in slab milling operation.
3. A hole with 40mm diameter and 50 mm depth is to be drilled in mild steel component. The cutting
speed can be taken as 65m/min and the feed rate as 0.25 mm/rev. calculate the machining time and
the material removal rate.

2. What are ideal fluids & real fluids?
3. Differentiate between compressible & incompressible fluid.
4. Define the term continuum. Elaborate its importance.
5. What are the applications of compressible fluids?

SECTION B
Attempt any FOUR questions. Each question carries 2.5 marks. (2.5*4=10)
1. State Newton’s law of viscosity & elaborate it.

2. Define Newtonian and non Newtonian fluids.

3. Define pressure. Obtain an expression for the pressure intensity at a point in a fluid.

5. What is manometer? How are they classified.

SECTION C
Attempt any TWO questions. Each question carries 5 marks. (5*2=10)
1. The right limb of a simple U-tube manometer containing mercury is open to the atmosphere while
the left limb is connected to a pipe in which a fluid of sp. Gr.0.9 is flowing. The centre of the pipe
is 12 cm below the level of mercury in the right limb, find the pressure of fluid in the pipe if the
difference of mercury level in the two limbs is 20 cm.

Take dynamic viscosity of fluid as 8.63 poises.

3. A plate of 0.025 mm distant from a fixed plate, moves at 60cm/s and requires a force of 2N per
unit area i.e. 2N/m2 to maintain this speed. Determine the flu id viscosity between the plates.
