Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

A healthy school environment — full of nutritious school meals,

physical activity and green schoolyards — sets students up for success in the

classroom and beyond. Without this or any shortcoming from what’s listed could

cause a tragic effect on a student’s performance or worst case scenario the

student himself.

It is indeed challenging for students, to stay healthy considering our daily

routines; from sleeping hours to balancing meals. Hoyland states on her article

(Effect of Breakfast on the Cognitive Performance of Children and Adolescents )

that “Breakfast improves concentration and alertness .” , which is a 100%

factual. A good breakfast fuels you up and gets you ready for the day. In
general, kids and teens who eat breakfast have more energy, do better in

school, and eat healthier throughout the day. Without breakfast, people

can get irritable, restless, and tired.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This field work aims to ascertain “The hurdles to a healthier 9th

Grade of SJCNI”.

Particularly this study sought to answer the following.

1. How may the respondents be described in terms of:

1.1.1 Gender

1.1.2 Age

1.1.4 Weight

2 Are you provided with the nutrients needed by your body day by day? Why
or why not?
3 What are the possible ways to improve the health of the respondents?

ASSUMPTION

The researcher has formulated the following assumptions:

1. The data and information gathered are valid and reliable.

4. There are barriers that least affect the health of a student.

5. There are hurdles to students in achieving a healthy state.
