J ames (Adrian Annis) must
solve a murder he witnessed
at a wedding. As he delves
into the photographs, he realis-
es the pictures don’t lie. But the

When everyone has an alibi, his
fight for the truth seems to hit
another dead end.
The use of hand held camera
creates a tense atmosphere and
a sense of unease. The mon-
tage of scenes leaves you on
edge, wanting to find out more.
Some films are narrative driven
but Kebla creates an unconven-
tional feeling with a music dri-
ven story line. Whilst the dia-
logue helps the story develop it
would be equally as good with
just the music playing. They say
pictures speak a thousand
c words, but music says so much
more. Kebla uses her sound-

track to create a consistent un-
derlying theme of anxiety.
The editing of this film interest-
ing. The jump cuts creates the
sense of a faced pace narrative
which builds suspense. Howev-
er, Kebla seems to be inspired
by Hitchcock as she also under-
cuts the tension with elements
of humour.
However, 1.7 million isn’t a par-
ticularly original or clever idea.
In short it is a well put-together
film about a murder mystery.
(Spoiler!) It takes more than
one passive watch to realise
that the main character might
be the wedding photographer
— but who knows for sure. The
film gives very little indicators
to James’ involvement to the
wedding.
What the film lacks in narrative
it makes up by the excellent
performance from Kathleen,
Louise Marie,
Entertainment reviewer
mother of the bride, played by
Jen Thurston. Her smug atti-
tude toys with James as he
struggles to piece together the
murder mystery.
The carelessness of the film
shows in the neglected mise-
en-scene. Can you spot the
bags thrown on the ground?
Not one of Kebla’s best films
produced, but it’s one to re-
member.
