INTRODUCTION
 Where do the Indonesian audience receive their news from,
on the Internet? As of late, we would tend to think that
most people receive news links from social media, but is
that still accurate?

 This survey aims to grab a general idea of Indonesian news


consumers news-consumption habits.

 Survey conducted by DailySocial.id in cooperation with


JakPat mobile survey. Gathering input from 1012
respondents sampled randomly from the population of
Indonesian smartphone users.

 It’s still generally recognized that DetikNews is the
most familiar news site in Indonesia. This survey

confirms that with 88.14% of respondents


acknowledging that they have ever visited DetikNews.

 The second most recognized news site is Kompas.com


(79.05%). Kompas is among the oldest & most
respected print newspaper brands in Indonesia, in
contrast with DetikNews which began online.

 Facebook is unsurprisingly the
biggest source of news article
links among respondents, at
70.85%

 A surprising discovery though, is


that LINE Today is quite popular
as a source of news links among
our Indonesian respondents, at
50.59%.

NEWS SOURCES
 Respondents do trust Online News, but tend to trust news they
open directly at news websites (55.04%) without going through
other 3rd-party referrals.

 Again LINE Today makes an appearance here in 2nd place, with


39.03% of respondents saying they trust news posted at LINE
Today.

 News from the most popular social media services are ranked
surprisingly low, with Facebook at 4th place (22.73%), and Twitter
at second-to-last place (10.38%), placed just above those who do
not trust any online news at all (6.23%)

CONCLUSIONS
 LINE Today is a surprising source of news for Indonesians,
ranked second just under Facebook in popularity as source of
news links among respondents.

 Respondents seem to not trust Facebook or Twitter as much,


though they do receive FB & Twitter news albeit critically.

 Most respondents get their news primarily from the Internet,


depending less and less upon other mass media for information.

 Even though respondents get their news primarily from the


Internet, respondents still look at Internet news critically and
not with complete, naive trust.
