Sudha Chandran is accomplished in Bharatanatyam dancer and Indian film and television actress, who lost a leg
to gangrene following a road accident while coming back from Madras with her parents in June 1981
near Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu.

She did not however let this deter her from goal to continue dancing, and subsequently went on to become one of the
best Bharatnatyam dancers of her time. She is well known for her roles as Ramola Sikand in Kaahin Kissii Roz and
as Yamini Singh inNaagin (2015 TV series) and as Chitradevi in Deivam Thandha Veedu Tamil remake of Saath
Nibhana Saathiya and also for playing Anand's first wife in Hum Paanch (season two).

Early life and education[edit]

Sudha was born in Mumbai on 21 September 1963[1] Her father K. D. Chandran hails from Irinjalakuda and her
mother Thankam hails from Kuzhalmannam , Palakkad. She earned her B.A from Mithibai College, Mumbai and
subsequently an M.A in Economics. In May 1981, while travelling in Tamil Nadu, she met with an accident in which
her legs were wounded. She received initial medical treatment of her injuries at a local hospital and was later
admitted to Vijaya Hospital at Madras. After doctors discovered thatgangrene had formed on her right leg, amputation
was required.[2] Chandran says that this period was the toughest time of her life. She subsequently overcame her
disability with the help of a prosthetic 'Jaipur foot', becoming one of the most highly acclaimed dancers of the Indian
subcontinent.[3] Her decision to dance again after a gap of two years was met by thunderous applause. She received
invitations from all over the world for performances. She was honored with various awards. She performed as far
away from home as Europe, Canada and the Middle East. Soon after, she catapulted to fame and recognition by
venturing into the world of films and television. She gained fame after the tragic incident. Now she has become an
inspiration to many with children in the age groups 8-11 in schools studying her biography as a part of their
curriculum.[4]

She recently received an honorary doctorate from Invertis University, Bareily.

Career[edit]

Sudha started her career with a telugu movie Mayuri which was based on her own biography making her the first
actor to have played herself in the movie. This movie was later on dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam. After receiving a
tremendous adulation from the audience, the producers remade the movie in Hindi as Naache Maayuri where she
again played herself and costarred with Shekhar Suman, Aruna Irani and Dina Pathak to name a few.

She was awarded the 1986 Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her performance in Mayuri.
Her career in television includes Kaahin Kissii Roz and K Street Pali Hill" where she was known for her differential
styling and was particularly known for her bindis, sarees and jewellery.

She was a contestant on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2 in 2007.

She also revolutionized the Indian television with her unique style statements. She happens to be the only actor who
has worked in almost all languages.

She was recently spotted playing Yamini Singh Raheja in the blockbuster TV serial " Naagin".

Family[edit]

She is married to Ravi Dang in 1986. Her father K D Chandran worked at USIS and is also an actor. He worked in
movies like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and China Gate.
