Teaching Managing Impulsivity

By: Kotori Ota Grade: 3 School: Maili Elementary


Objective:​ SWBAT identify 3 ways to manage their impulsivity in their daily lives by
documenting their ideas on the goal setting worksheet.

Activity:​ Read aloud and goal setting

Materials:
● Mentor text, “David Goes to School” by David Shannon
● Anchor chart paper
● Markers
● Goal setting worksheet
● Pencils

Lesson Summary: ​In this lesson, students will be introduced to the Habits and Mindset,
managing impulsivity. I will use a mentor text (David Goes to School by David Shannon) to
show ways that the character, David, did not manage his impulsivity. Then the class will
discuss ways that David could have managed his impulsivity. We will create an anchor chart
to list situations where we can manage our impulsivity in the classroom. By the end of the
lesson, the class will come up with several ways and situations where they can manage
impulsivity in their lives.
