tter of reference for: Hannah Metcalf To Whom It May Concern:

I highly recommend Ms. Hannah Metcalf as a classroom teacher. She participated in a

college practicum teaching experience in my 7th grade reading classroom in October 2014
for 8 days. During that time, Ms. Metcalf was able to quickly build a rapport with the
students, which is clearly one of her biggest strengths. She stepped right in to help in
any way possible from taking a small group to do skill work or read with them to handing
out papers or helping to manage the classroom.

After the first day, Ms. Metcalf stepped in to teach parts of the day’s lesson to each
section and worked up to developing her own lessons and teaching full days by the end of
her practicum. Her lessons were well-planned, and she really worked on differentiating
for our diverse population of student needs. She was able to spontaneously change her
lessons after a quick assessment that something wasn’t working, or the class’ needs were
different. Her lessons were both informative and interesting for the students.

Ms. Metcalf was willing to listen to feedback and make changes to her teaching or
lessons. Ms. Metcalf’s classroom management really improved through the practicum. She
demonstrated a variety of techniques for dealing with student behaviors in a positive
way. Ms. Metcalf would be a positive asset to any teaching program, and I am confident
her teaching and management skills will only improve with time and experience.

To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Jennifer Stover. I am a Lecturer for the School of Education at Iowa State
University. I am writing this letter on behalf of my student, Hannah Metcalf.

Hannah was my student during 2014, both in my Spring 2014 section of “The Teaching of
Reading and Language Arts for the Primary Grades, K-3,” as well as my Fall 2014 section
of “The Teaching of Reading and Language Arts for the Intermediate Grades, 4-6.”

Hannah’s dedication to her future career is highly evident. In the short time I have
known Hannah, I have seen professionalism and desire to do her very best in her work. I
consider Hannah to be an average student in the Elementary Education Program.

Hannah is a very outgoing person with a bubbly personality! She has a passion for living
an exciting life. She is curious about her world, as evidenced by her drive to visit
other parts of the world and improve the lives of the students she teaches. Hannah would
make such a difference to the students who she teaches! She is so dedicated and "in love
with life!" She is ready to accept the challenge of living in other parts of the world
than where she is from, and would embrace it with such enthusiasm and excitement.

During class, Hannah participates and has fun with her peers. Hannah is an asset to her
group when working with others, meeting challenges with creativity and flexibility. Each
day, Hannah comes to class prepared and ready to learn. She has an incredible work ethic.
Her ideas and understanding of what makes an effective reading and language arts teacher
were correct and evident in her work. Hannah exhibits professionalism and seeks to do her
best in the name of providing best practices for the students she will someday teach.

Thank you for your consideration of Hannah Metcalf. I believe in her abilities, as well
as her dedication to becoming an outstanding teacher.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Stover Lecturer, School of Education Iowa State University
