Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:

This is a copy of my individual career development plan. All teachers in my building

work with an administrator to set goals based on the Iowa teaching standards. My
principal and I worked together to set a goal for my professional development focusing
on Iowa Teaching Standard 3 and 5.

Reflection on the artifact:

For my career development plan, I am tracking the growth of my students on a reading

rubric used in our middle school reading department. Students in my pull-out reading
class started out the year with a class average of 7/12 points on the rubric. I compared
their class average to the average of a general education reading class. My class
scored 1.5 points lower. My goal for my class is for our class average to reach 8.5/12
by the end of the school year. I will be tracking my students’ growth at least monthly to
monitor their progress.

The individual career development plan is helping me reflect on my teaching practices.

I am gaining experience with assessment and using the data I glean as a tool to drive
my instruction. I am furthering my effectiveness as a teacher by analyzing student data
more formally and reflecting on the ways I use data in my classroom.
