PROJECTS AS CULMINATING EXPERIENCE

PROJECT 1

I’ve always been interested in the magic that happens when different forms of art collide
into a unified live experience. In this way, I would like to develop a system where the
background music and lighting or video of a certain ballet presentation would be
controlled by the dancers themselves through motion and temperature sensors
displayed all over the stage. These sensors would react to the kind of motion presented
by the dancers and vary accordingly in intensity or even character of the songs, sounds,
special effects and lightning previously programmed for such event. This system would
provide a unique experience for the public in every function, because no presentation
would be the same.

This project would challenge and foster my ability to work with different professionals
with different roles but one goal. It also would help me develop my skills in
programming, sound design and live recording of large ensembles.

PROJECT 2

I would like to promote the use of native instruments from my country in today’s popular
music. I’d specially like to work with wind instruments like quenas, zampoñas and yurus.
I propose the development of a MIDI controller which would translate the sound of these
instruments to MIDI language and also work as triggers which would work in sync with
video.

This project would help me develop my knowledge of MIDI programming and music –
video sync projects. It would also provide new sounds and resources for my course
peers who are not familiarized with these Andean sounds.
