Introduction : Sleep is an important thing that is needed by human to get the
optimal body function. Poor sleep quality may activate the symphatetic nerve and causes the increasing blood pressure. Objective : To determine the effect of quality and quantity of sleep with blood pressure among students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. Methods : The sampling used Simple Random Sampling with the total samples are 95 respondents. This study was conducted to look at sleep quality and sleep quantity by using PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) which is done directly by respondents. The blood pressure examinations are done with a spyhgmomanometer Riester and stetoschope Littman. Results : This research had for the good quality is 28,4% and the poor is 71,6% for all samples. Sleep duration for 5-6 hours is 58,9% duration for >7 hours is 7,4% for 7 hours 20% and for <5 jam hours is 13,7%. Respondents with normal blood pressure is 62,1% while the prehypertension is 30,5% and hypertension grade I is 7,4%. The results for statistic analize showed that there is no difference between the blood pressure according to the sleep quality and sleep quantity among students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. Conclusion : There is no difference between the blood pressure according to the sleep quality and sleep quantity among students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara.
