Lesson Process:

Model pattern of beats for students using body percussion. Have students repeat pattern. Discuss:
what is a beat? How many beats do we have in each part? What are number sentences that
could represent this pattern? Students will be put into groups of 4-5 and will be assigned a
multiplication fact. They will work together to compose a pattern of beats based on their
multiplication fact using a variety of body percussion. Students will then perform their patterns to
the class. The rest of the class must listen and watch closely and then correctly guess the group’s
multiplication fact.
