When was the first instance of bombs being dropped on US soil?

1. Earliest Bombs Dropped on US Soil because of Military Test.

The earliest bomb dropped on US soil is done by Lieutenant J. H. Towers of the US


Navy. The military test consisted of bombing stationary targets from an airplane. The test
occurred on February 5th, 1913. Following the first test, Billy Mitchell demonstrated a
bomber by sinking a German battleship, Ostfriesland, which was seized from World War I.
The bombing occurred at the Virginia coast on the 20th and 21st of July in 1921.

2. Earliest Bombs Dropped on US Soil because of Acts of Wars.

Before talking about the attacks on Pearl Harbor on December 1941 which caused
the Sleeping Giant to participate in World War II, there are several “internal affairs” in USA
that was also accompanied by bombings. The earliest incidents occurred was in Tulsa,
Oklahoma, on the 1st of June in 1921. At that time, racism and discriminations between
blacks and whites were still intense. The tension increased as riots erupted, causing dozens
of civilians killed and several buildings burned down. Some people have claimed that the
riots were initiated by police officers and a massive amount of dynamites were dropped
down by private planes.

Another incident, commonly known as “Bloody Williamson”, occurred in November


1926. This incident involved two big clans, namely The Birger Gang led by a Russian
immigrant, Charlie Birger, and The Shelton Gang led by Carl-Earl-Bernie brothers. The Ku
Klux Klan Wars fought for the domination of Southern Illinois liquor racket. This incident also
involved bomber planes and sophisticated military technologies.

3. Earliest Bombs Dropped on US Soil because of Human Errors

The earliest and most famous bombing incident on US soil caused by human error
was in 1958. A nuclear bomb was accidentally dropped by a US Air Force crew on South
Carolina during the Cold War. The incident, which took place on March 11 st, 1958, caused
severe damages to nearby forests and houses, even though there were no casualties.
