Lesson Overview/Rationale:
Students need to know about other places in the world they live in.
Curriculum Framework/Standard:
“Describe the human characteristics of places. Describe the human characteristics of the
region under study (including languages, religion, economic system, governmental system,
cultural traditions).” Social Studies Grades K-8; PAGE 64
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to describe a countries religion and government.
Students will be able to recognize a country on a map.
Students will be able to recall information about regions presented by their classmates.
Technology Uses:
Students must use PowerPoint to present their region/country to the class.
Students can use a search engine to conduct additional research.
Students must use Microsoft Word to make a quiz.
Materials:
Social studies book
Computer
1 Subject note book
Pens and pencils
Procedure:
1. The teacher will allow 4-6 students to get into groups. (5 groups maximum)
2. Each group will be assigned a region of the world to present to the class.
3. Each student must explain something about the country they are presenting.
4. One student in the group will research the region.
5. One student in the group will create the PowerPoint.
6. Each student in the group will take turns reading the slides to their classmates.
7. Students in the group will make a small 5 question; multiple choice quiz.
8. The teacher will grade the quizzes and grades will be added as extra credit if completed.
Assessment:
Each group will be evaluated for talking about the human characteristics of the region
they chose.

Each group must create a quiz for the class asking about each topic they spoke on.
