 English is a universal language used by people all over the world. Therefore
English is very important for everyone because it is a bridge of communication every
person in this world. English language is also required a test to assess the ability of self-
speak in English. Test of English as a Foreign Language abbreviated as TOEFL is the
English language proficiency test with American accent required to assess a person's
ability in English for the purposes of certain requirements such as college admission,
college graduation requirements, job requirements, etc.

TOEFL result score ranges from: 310 (minimum value) to 677 (maximum value)
for PBT (paper-based test). Since 1998, the TOEFL is held online by computer
(Computer-based Testing / CBT) and since 2005 called iBT (Internet-based Test). Some
places that have not been able to implement CBT or iBT (because there is no computer
facilities and internet network), TOEFL is still held manually using paper and pencil
(paper-based test). TOEFL results of the CBT version have values ranging from 0 to 300,
while the value for iBT is from 0 to 120.

There are three TOEFL options, each having the same but different material in the
level of technology needed to do it.

1. TOEFL PBT
PBT stands for Paper Based Test. This is the most approach traditional to take the
TOEFL test. This is the simplest way because it does not require a computer because
in some places the TOEFL exam does not provide an adequate computer. TOEFL
PBT test consists of Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression,
Reading Comprehention and Test of Written English (TWE).
2. TOEFL CBT
CBT stands for Computer Based Test. Until now, this is the preferred method,
because your TOEFL test can be recorded in the most accurate way possible, it can
also eliminate unnecessary documents. CBT TOEFL is a method often used by
international students. TOEFL CBT test consists of Listening, Structure, Reading,
and Writing.
3. TOEFL iBT
iBT stands for Internet-Based Test. Since its inception in 2005, iBT TOEFL has
replaced CBT as an easy method to carry out the TOEFL test. The iBT format is the
only form of TOEFL test that contains the speaking component as it provides the
most accurate representation of students' English conversational abilities. TOEFL
iBT is given in English and run through the internet with a combination of 4 parts of
Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
