Concentratioin (M)
Based on the graphic, the highest temperature is from the experiment of KMnO4 3M with
glycerin 50 mL. Besides, we use dry ice for the cold. Its temperature is minus 78 Celsius
degree. So, the difference temperature between hot and cold is 199 Celcius degree. The
voltage which we got is 1.3 volt and the electric current is 600 mA.
Furthermore, economical aspects of the car consist of the chemical aspect and components
of the car prices. Here is the list:
Power source:
‘Alfarizi’ uses TEG, based on concept of difference of temperature. A thermoelectric
generator (TEG), also called a Seebeck generator which is a solid state device that converts
heat flux (temperature differences) directly into electrical energy through a phenomenon
called the Seebeck effect (a form of thermoelectric effect). Thermoelectric generator has
function like heat engines, but are less bulky and have no moving parts. However, TEGs
are typically more expensive and less efficient. The heat which we use is from a reaction
between KMnO4 and glycerin.
14KMnO4 (s) + 4C3H8O3 (l) + H2O (l) →14MnO2 + 7K2CO3 (s) + 5CO2(g) + 17H2O(g)
The temperature in which we measure is 121 Celsius degree for KMnO4 3M based on the
graphic below. The amount of KMnO4 is 23,7 grams. It is diluted in 50 ml aquadest. Then,
KMnO4 will be react with 50 mL glycerin. For the cool part, we use up 150 grams of dry
ice. Its temperature is minus 78 Celsius degree. The difference temperature between hot
and cold is 199 Celsius degree. After we measured, the total voltage that can be produced
is 1.3 volt and the electric current is 600 mA.
Here is the graphic about our experiment, therefore we decide to use KMnO4 3M.
Stopping mechanism:
In stopping mechanism, we use the reaction between magnesium and sulfuric acid with the
reaction below;
Mg(s) + H2SO4(aq) → MgSO4(aq) + H2(g)
Mg plate, which has length 7 cm, being dipped to H2SO4 0,5 M liquid. Mg will react with
H2SO4, thus Mg gradually runs out. One of the Mg plateis connected to the dynamo’s cable
and the other connected to TEG’s cable. Therefore, if Mg reacted out with H2SO4 and
gradually runs out, the circuit would be disconnected and the car stopped automatically.
Here is the graphic about our stopping mechanism controlling;

Firefighting instructions : Evacuate all personnel from danger area. Do not discharge sprays onto solid carbon dioxide.
Solid carbon dioxide will freeze water rapidly. NEVER HANDLE SOLID CARBON DIOXIDE
WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. USE GLOVES OR DRY ICE TONGS OR A DRY SHOVEL OR
SCOOP. Move packages away from fire area if safe to do so. Self-contained breathing
General measures : Use protective clothing. Wear cold-insulating gloves/face shield/eye protection. Chemical
asphyxiant. Exposure to low concentrations for extended periods may result in dizziness or
unconsciousness, and may lead to death. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when
entering area unless atmosphere is proven to be safe. NEVER HANDLE SOLID CARBON
DIOXIDE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. USE GLOVES OR DRY ICE TONGS OR A DRY
SHOVEL OR SCOOP.
Prevent waste from contaminating the surrounding environment. Prevent soil and water pollution.
Precautions for safe handling : Avoid materials incompatible with cryogenic use; some metals such as carbon steel may
fracture easily at low temperature. Vapor can cause rapid suffocation due to oxygen
deficiency. Never allow any unprotected part of your body to touch solid carbon dioxide or to
touch uninsulated pipes or vessels containing solid or liquid carbon dioxide or cold carbon
dioxide gas. Not only can you suffer frostbite, your skin may stick fast to the cold surfaces.
Use tongs or insulated gloves when handling solid carbon dioxide or objects in contact cold
carbon dioxide in any form. Wear protective clothing and equipment as prescribed in section 8.
Storage conditions : Store and use with adequate ventilation. Do not store in tight containers or confined spaces.
Storage areas should be clean and dry. Solid carbon dioxide is generally delivered to
customers in 50-lb (22.7-kg), ½-cubic ft (0.0142 cubic meter) blocks (approximate dimensions),
wrapped in kraft paper. Small pellets or nuggets are also produced. The product should be
stored in insulated containers that open from the top. Lids should fit loosely so the carbon
dioxide vapor given off as the solid sublimes can escape into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide
gas is about 1½ times as heavy as air and will accumulate in low-lying areas, so ventilation
None.
Appropriate engineering controls : Oxygen detectors should be used when asphyxiating gases may be released. Ensure exposure
is below occupational exposure limits (where available). Systems under pressure should be
regularly checked for leakages. Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.
Respiratory protection : When workplace conditions warrant respirator use, follow a respiratory protection program that
meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, ANSI Z88.2, or MSHA 30 CFR 72.710 (where applicable).
Use an air-supplied or air-purifying cartridge if the action level is exceeded. Ensure that the
respirator has the appropriate protection factor for the exposure level. If cartridge type
respirators are used, the cartridge must be appropriate for the chemical exposure. For
apparatus (SCBA).

4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
None.
Suitable extinguishing media : Carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder, water spray, fog.
Fire hazard : EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE GAS. The hydrogen flame is nearly invisible. Hydrogen has a low
ignition energy; escaping hydrogen gas may ignite spontaneously. A fireball forms if the gas
cloud ignites immediately after release. Hydrogen forms explosive mixtures with air and
oxidizing agents.
Explosion hazard : EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE GAS. Forms explosive mixtures with air and oxidizing agents.
Firefighting instructions : If venting or leaking gas catches fire, do not extinguish flames. Flammable vapors may spread
from leak, creating an explosive reignition hazard. Vapors can be ignited by pilot lights, other
flames, smoking, sparks, heaters, electrical equipment, static discharge, or other ignition
sources at locations distant from product handling point. Explosive atmospheres may linger.
Before entering an area, especially a confined area, check the atmosphere with an appropriate
device
Evacuate all personnel from the danger area. Use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
and protective clothing. Immediately cool containers with water from maximum distance. Stop
flow of gas if safe to do so, while continuing cooling water spray. Remove ignition sources if
safe to do so. Remove containers from area of fire if safe to do so. On-site fire brigades must
comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.156 and applicable standards under 29 CFR 1910 Subpart
L—Fire Protection.

Protection during firefighting : Compressed gas: asphyxiant. Suffocation hazard by lack of oxygen.
Special protective equipment for fire fighters : Standard protective clothing and equipment (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) for fire
fighters.
Specific methods : Use fire control measures appropriate for the surrounding fire. Exposure to fire and heat
radiation may cause gas containers to rupture. Cool endangered containers with water spray jet
General measures from a protected position. Prevent water used in emergency cases from entering sewers and
drainage systems
: DANGER: EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE GAS. Forms explosive mixtures with air and
oxidizing agents. See section 5. Evacuate personnel to a safe area. Appropriate self-
contained breathing apparatus may be required. Approach suspected leak area with caution.
Remove all sources of ignition. if safe to do so. Reduce gas with fog or fine water spray.
Stop flow of product if safe to do so. Ventilate area or move container to a well-ventilated
area. Flammable gas may spread from leak. Before entering the area, especially a confined
area, check the atmosphere with an appropriate device.
Prevent waste from contaminating the surrounding environment. Prevent soil and water pollution.
Precautions for safe handling : Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No
Wear leather safety gloves and safety shoes when handling cylinders. Protect cylinders from
physical damage; do not drag, roll, slide or drop. While moving cylinder, always keep in place
removable valve cover. Never attempt to lift a cylinder by its cap; the cap is intended solely to
protect the valve. When moving cylinders, even for short distances, use a cart (trolley, hand
truck, etc.) designed to transport cylinders. Never insert an object (e.g, wrench, screwdriver,
pry bar) into cap openings; doing so may damage the valve and cause a leak. Use an
adjustable strap wrench to remove over-tight or rusted caps. Slowly open the valve. If the valve
is hard to open, discontinue use and contact your supplier. Close the container valve after
each use; keep closed even when empty. Never apply flame or localized heat directly to any
part of the container. High temperatures may damage the container and could cause the
pressure relief device to fail prematurely, venting the container contents. For other precautions
in using this product, see section 16.

Storage conditions : Store only where temperature will not exceed 125°F (52°C). Post “No Smoking/No Open
Flames” signs in storage and use areas. There must be no sources of ignition. Separate
packages and protect against potential fire and/or explosion damage following appropriate
codes and requirements (e.g, NFPA 30, NFPA 55, NFPA 70, and/or NFPA 221 in the U.S.) or
secure containers upright to keep them from falling or being knocked over. Install valve
protection cap, if provided, firmly in place by hand when the container is not in use. Store full
and empty containers separately. Use a first-in, first-out inventory system to prevent storing full
containers for long periods. For other precautions in using this product, see section 16
OTHER PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING, STORAGE, AND USE: When handling product
under pressure, use piping and equipment adequately designed to withstand the pressures to
be encountered. Never work on a pressurized system. Use a back flow preventive device in the
piping. Gases can cause rapid suffocation because of oxygen deficiency; store and use with
adequate ventilation. If a leak occurs, close the container valve and blow down the system in a
safe and environmentally correct manner in compliance with all international, federal/national,
state/provincial, and local laws; then repair the leak. Never place a container where it may
