Alternatives to Antibiotics

Antibiotics became a hot topic in the society nowadays. This is because of the

antibiotic resistance capability of some bacteria. Antibiotic resistance is the capability of

microbes to resist the effects of drugs – that is, the germs are not killed, and their growth

is not stopped. Long exposure to the antibacterial drug may result to the capability of the

bacteria to develop antibiotic resistance.

In order to prevent the increasing number of antibiotic-resistant microbes, there

are certain ways that can be used in exchange of using antibiotics. There are four

alternatives for antibiotics:

1. Herbal Medicine

2. Passive Immunization / Antibodies

3. Vaccination

4. Phage Therapy
