Fusing & Slumping Glass
This class is an introduction to the wonderful world of kiln-formed glass. Layers of compat-
ible glass are fused together to create artistic objects including jewelry, tiles and picture
frames. Glass can also be slumped into or over molds to create barrettes, small plates,
and votive candleholders. Glass cutting, compatibility testing, use of “frits” (crushed
glass) and metal inclusions are among the techniques presented in addition to
information on the use of kilns and firing processes. More advanced projects will be

Capture the beauty of light passing through colored glass by creating a stained glass panel. A brief review of the history of stained glass is
presented to show the vast possibilities of the use of glass art. This class will include both the traditional leaded technique as well as the
“Tiffany” method of copper foil. Instruction is offered in glass cutting, leading, foiling, soldering, puttying and use of patina; students will be
able to complete a panel of approximately one square foot in size. A supply list will be given out at the first class meeting.

Hue Yang was born in Taiwan in 1978 and has lived in America for most of her adult life. Since she was
young she has had a love for color and form. Yang came to California in 1996 to pursue my education
in art. While a student at San Francisco State University Yang began a focus on ceramic sculpture. Since
that time I have developed myself as a potter as well. I currently teach ceramics in several places as well
as maintain a studio practice in Oakland, CA. Yang chooses to make functional pottery because it allows
people to enrich their lives by using everyday objects that contain humor, interesting compositions and
subtle designs.
