position sensing

Chances are that if you’ve ever flown, you’ve flown on an aircraft that uses Honeywell's position sensors.
Honeywell has a long history of providing linear and rotary position sensors for demanding aerospace
applications. These applications range from large commercial aircraft to various military platforms.

Our design experience includes sensors for measuring pilot flight control inputs, flap skew and surface
position measurement. These types of sensors are in service on all current Boeing produced aircraft.
Honeywell's experience in providing sensors for aircraft applications includes producing over 50,000 of these
types of position sensors.

We specialize in providing products for current aircraft applications to resolve quality or reliability issues. Our
products provide solutions using a wide range of sensing technologies.
RVDTs
Honeywell is recognized as a leader in Variable Differential Transformer design and fabrication. We have
provided RVDT based position sensors for aerospace application for over 30 years. Our RVDT position sensors
are currently installed on every active Boeing commercial platform.

A RVDT is an transformer that provides an AC output voltage that is directly proportional to the angular
displacement of its input shaft. The output signal is linear within a specified range of angular displacement.
Both the primary and secondary windings are wound onto the stator of a RVDT. The RVDT rotor is passive
and does not require brushes or a transformer to supply any current. The output of a RVDT typically consists
of two opposing voltages from the secondary.

force measurement sensing

Sensing elements and signal conditioning electronics are integrated into load-path electromechanical
components such as control rods, input quadrants, tie rods, and other linkage devices. Common safety
options include dual load-path, high limit load/high gauge factor, and redundant channels.

Our solutions have been used to address FAA Regulation 135 requirements by easily retrofitting
existing linkage components without effect to footprint.

Torque Sensor

This input quadrant torque sensor provides a zero-backlash interface and slip ring cable exit. Its sensing
element utilizes a load cell constructed of 7075 aluminum and gauged with metal foil strain gauges. A
secondary load path integral to the sensor ensures proper of flight controls in all potential failure modes.

Pressure Sensing

Honeywell has provided pressure sensing solutions for aerospace applications for over 50 years. Our design
experience includes sensors for bleed air, fuel, engine oil and hydraulic fluid pressure measurement.
