Iowa State at Iowa Postgame Notes

Today’s game was a sellout (70,585). Iowa has recorded a sell out in 44 of its last 46 games, dating back to the 2003 season.

With the win over Iowa State, Iowa holds a 39-19 advantage in the series. Iowa has won three straight meetings and six of the last
eight. Iowa improved to 23-11 in the series with the Cy-Hawk Trophy on the line.

Iowa has scored 35 points in each of the last two meetings and improves to 23-12 in games played at Iowa City. In the last two
contests against the Cyclones, Iowa boasts a plus-eight turnover margin.

Iowa State scored its first touchdown against Iowa in 18 quarters, dating back to the 2006 game, with 1:51 left in the fourth quarter
on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Austin Arnaud to Darius Darks. Iowa scored 70 consecutive points against the Cyclones,
since ISU led 3-0 early in the 2009 meeting. The Cyclones snapped Iowa’s scoring streak with their fourth-quarter touchdown.
The Hawkeye defense has held the Cyclones to a combined 15 points the last three competitions.

With the football win, Iowa holds a 3-2 advantage in the 2010-11 Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series. Iowa State won the volleyball match
Friday evening in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series, in its seventh year, is tied 3-3.

With the win over Iowa State, Iowa has won 10 straight games with a trophy on the line. The current streak began with a win over
Minnesota in 2007 and includes two January bowl wins.

Sophomore RB Adam Robinson surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards with a 75-yard run in the second period, the longest run of
his career. Robinson, against Iowa State, rushed 14 times for 156 yards and one touchdown, surpassing 100 yards for the second
consecutive week and the fourth time in his career. The 156 yards are a career best (109 yards, twice).

Robinson surpassed 1,000 career yards in his 13th game and on the 216th rushing attempt of his career. Former RB Shonn Greene
surpassed 1,000 career yards in 164 attempts and Albert Young surpassed 1,000 career yards in 11 games.

Iowa’s defense collected three interceptions today (LB Tyler Nielsen, FS Brett Greenwood and CB Shaun Prater). Iowa collected
at least one turnover in 11-of-13 games last season, with no turnovers vs. Michigan State and Ohio State. The Hawkeye defense
has collected at least one takeaway in 45 of its last 50 games, dating back to 2006. The Hawkeye defense collected a combined 10
takeaways (eight interceptions, two fumbles) against the Cyclones the last two meetings.

Iowa won the toss and elected to receive. Iowa has started on offense in 115 of its last 132 contests. The Hawkeyes have started
the game on offense in 117-of-138 games under Ferentz. Iowa games vs. Ohio State (11/14/07), Indiana (10/31/09), Purdue
(11/15/08), Penn State (11/08/08), Wisconsin (10/10/08), Minnesota (11/10/07), at Northwestern (11/3/07), vs. Michigan State
(10/27/07), at Penn State (10/6/07), vs. Iowa State (9/16/06), vs. Minnesota (11/19/05), vs. Michigan (10/22/05), at Purdue
(10/8/05), at Minnesota (11/13/04), vs. Purdue (11/6/04), at Miami, OH (9/7/02) and at Michigan State (9/27/03) are the only
contests that the Hawkeyes didn’t start on offense. Iowa won 13 of the 17 games.

Iowa scored a touchdown on its opening drive on a nine-yard pass from Ricky Stanzi to Marvin McNutt. Iowa scored a rushing
touchdown on its first drive of the season-opener vs. Eastern Illinois. Last season, Iowa scored on its initial possession in four of
13 games. Iowa has scored touchdowns on its first three drives in both games in 2010. Both of the first two drives vs. Iowa State
covered 71 yards and the third drive was 75 yards.
Iowa State did not score on its first possession. Iowa allowed just two opponents (Indiana, game nine, and Penn State, game four,
both in 2009) to score on their opening drive in its last 28 games.
Last season, Iowa scored the first points of the game in eight of 13 contests. Also in 2009, Iowa scored 35 straight points at Iowa
State, 21 at Penn State and 20 at Wisconsin.

Iowa scored touchdowns on four of its first five possessions.

Iowa has outscored its two opponents 28-0 in the first period. Against Iowa State, the Iowa offense ran 26 plays for 129 yards in
the first period and allowed ISU to run just three plays for three yards. Iowa had 13:34 in time of possession in the opening period.
For the game, Iowa maintained possession for 35:38, compared to only 24:22 for Iowa State.

Senior WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos moved up Iowa’s career receiving charts. He ended the day with five receptions for 65
yards. Johnson-Koulianos improved his career totals to 133 catches for 1,940 yards. He moved to fifth in receiving yards and is
sixth in receptions.
RB Jewel Hampton returned to action for Iowa for the first time since the 2009 Outback Bowl, missing all of last season due to
injury. Hampton rushed for 20 yards on 84 attempts, including a two-yard scoring run in the second period.

Senior QB Ricky Stanzi completed 11-18 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. Stanzi improved his
career totals to 350-603 for 4,804 yards and 34 touchdowns. Stanzi scored the first rushing touchdown of his career on a one-yard
run in the second period. Iowa is 20-4 with Stanzi as the starting quarterback.

Senior TE Allen Reisner had the longest catch of his career with a 55-yard reception in the third period that led to Iowa’s third
period touchdown. Reisner had three receptions for 66 yards against Iowa State, including a two-yard scoring catch, the third of
his career. He also had a seven-yard scoring reception at Iowa State a year ago.

Senior LB Jeff Tarpinian started for the first time in his career. Tarpinian missed the opening game due to injury. Also playing for
the first time this season, due to injury, were DB Shaun Prater and DE Broderick Binns. Tarpinian ended the contest with a career-
best 11 tackles.

Junior DB Shaun Prater had Iowa’s first interception of the season in the third period. Prater started for the time this season after
missing the opening game due to a preseason injury.

Senior DB Brett Greenwood had an interception in the third period to stop an ISU scoring drive inside the Iowa 20. Greenwood
now has four picks against the Cyclones in the last three games played vs. ISU. He also had two interceptions last season and one
in Iowa’s 2008 triumph over Iowa State.

Junior Tyler Nielsen started for the second time in his career and had his first career interception in the third period.

Iowa was a perfect 4-4 in the red zone, collecting two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. Iowa has scored on 71 of
the last 79 red zone possessions (47 TDs and 24 FGs), dating back to the Michigan State game in 2008. Iowa is 52-60 combined
inside the red zone its last 18 games.

Iowa State was 1-2 in the red zone, with two interceptions. Iowa opponents were 24-29 in the red zone last season, with 10 FGs
and 14 touchdowns, and are 2-4 in two games in 2010.

Iowa’s defense has allowed only seven points in each of its first two games.

Iowa State did not collect any turnovers.

P Ryan Donahue punted five times, averaging 48.4 yards per kick and had two kicks downed inside the 20. Donahue had a long
punt of 61 yards.

QB John Wienke saw action for the first time in his career. He threw one incomplete pass.

Instant replay was used once in the second period. The call on the field, Iowa runner down at the one-yard line, was upheld.

Iowa plays its first road game next week, traveling to Arizona (9:36 p.m. CT, ESPN). Iowa will entertain Ball State Sept. 25
(time and TV, TBA).
