Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

1. By using this colorful and engaging medium to present information, students will be engaged in the
learning process.
2. Students can show their learning through evaluation via play when interacting with puppets and farm
animal toys.
3. Student can also show learning by drawing a farm animal and discussing what they know about the
animal (ie: what sound it makes).

Lesson idea implementation: I will open the lesson by presenting the PowerPoint movie, What Does a Cow
Say? While watching the video, I will have students guess what animal sounds the farm animals make by
accessing background knowledge. After watching the video, we will read a narrative about life on the farm. I
will point to pictures of animals in the story and ask, “What does this animal (ie: a chicken) say?” Students will
respond. This will be a good formative assessment to see what students have retained from the video.
After, students will have a free play with farm animal toys. I will observe play and we will discuss life on
the farm and the animals. As a closing activity, students will draw their own farm animal. I will caption each
drawing by interviewing each student individually.

Reflective Practice: I believe this lesson is impactful to students by allowing them access to an engaging
medium such as PowerPoint. This in my opinion would be more engaging than simply having a discussion
about farm animal sounds. By providing students with realistic visuals they can make cognitive connections,
thus expanding their learning.
