ABSTRACT

Diabetes melitus (DM) is one of the serious health problems and causes physical and
psychological complications. The psychological effect in DM patients causes the individual to
not being obedient towards the treatment and decrease their quality of life. This study aims to
look at the psychological status in DM patients in inpatient ward RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin
Bandung.
This descriptive quantitative study used accidental sampling technique with the
number of respondents 47. This study took place in inpatient ward RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin
Bandung. Data collected by 2 minutes interview method. The data analyzed descriptively.
The result of this study indicated the psychological status of DM patients to be 53,2%
of them experiencing double physics, and no one of the patients experiencing psychosomatic
disorder, which means that DM patients in inpatient ward experiencing physical and mental
emotional disorders.
The conclusion is that most of DM patients in inpatient ward experiencing
psychological disorder. It is important for health care providers especially nurses to create
interventions and program that is suitable for DM patients who experience psychological
disorder.
