INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE 3

(BAR 423)

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY

Throughout this course we have studied the significance and objectives of artificial lighting
within certain enclosed spaces. These spaces include train stations, discotheques, churches,
commercial kitchens, architectural studios and museums. International and local case studies
have been very useful in achieving the learning objectives.

This assignment emphasizes on the design and exploration of basic lamp design. It focuses on
the form, structure, color, texture, materials used an its support system, lamp type,
wattage, beam strength, fixing detail, type of enclosure and the impact of the light on the
space (function/image).

The rules are simple:

 Use any available material i.e. wood, cement, porcelain, pvc etc. (use of locally
available materials is an added advantage)
 Specify the lamp type: gas discharge, tungsten filament, LED etc.
 Use any form of expression: Sketches, ArchiCAD, Revit, Photoshop, Sketch up, V-Ray
etc. (inclusion of well detailed and annotated sketches and physical models is and
added advantage)
 Presentation should be in A3 format to be pined up in studio on 5th February 2018. The
annotated drawings should be in the same sheet as the 3Ds so that the information is
read simultaneously (A well-designed layout is an added advantage)

The purpose of this exercise is to test/audit your design credentials.

Kindly note that we shall be inviting a “celebrity judge”.

I hope you will enjoy this exercise as much as I enjoyed drafting this document.

All the best guys!
