Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through
investigation of different aspects of a topic…. Topic: Leaders in United States, Leaders
from Pakistan in the book I am Malala, the Taliban, and ISIS

Anticipatory Set: After reading I am Malala, Students will classify pictures and “label”
United States Politicians/ Leaders based on their ranking where the students believe
they are from highest to lowest ranking.

Objective/Purpose: By the end of this lesson students will be able to compare and
contrast leaders and the bad people such as the Taliban in Pakistan and ISIS in the
United States, how they differ and ways that they possibly shape the Country's beliefs
and how it alters their education beliefs
● I can compare and contrast, and tell the difference in U.S. Leaders, Pakistan
Leaders, and the “bad people”
● I can compare and contrast the educational beliefs in both the United States and
Pakistan

Input:
1. United States requires children to obtain an education until they are a certain age
2. Pakistan does not believe in education for girls
3. Malala fights for her education rights along with others rights to obtain an
education

Model: Students will watch the flipped lesson online and take notes. Students will need
to research United States and Pakistan Leaders, bad people such as the Taliban and
ISIS, along with the beliefs of educational rights for children in each Country.

Guided Practice: Find the leaders in I am Malala, have an understanding of them and
the Taliban.

Check for Understanding: The students understanding will be checked by writing a


compare and contrast paper between the two countries. Have simple knowledge for
which leader does what and how the Taliban affected Pakistan and now ISIS affects
both countries
Closure: Students will each have five minutes to share their findings with the class…
This will be a two-day project in class.
