SW-PBIS Lesson Plan for Armstrong Common Area Procedures:

Target Area: Playground

Lesson Target: The students will behave appropriately on the playground.

Procedure for Playground:


Active Listening: use your eyes, ears, and mind; listen for directions.
Responsibility: do what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it.
Manners: think of others and use soft voices and polite words.
Self-Control: keep ARMS and feet to yourself; be responsible for your body and your space.

Follow directions and activity rules; follow directions given by adults, using good
manners.
Be responsible when using equipment. Put equipment away when the bell rings.
Line up quickly and safely, demonstrating self-control.
Treat people right and do the right thing.

Lesson Plan:
1. Introduction of Expectations:
Review ARMS; practice in 3 lunch groups. Have stations for the students to be
taught the general expectations of each activity on the playground. Individual
teachers can also practice playground procedures.
2. Adult non-example
At each station a teacher demonstrates doing the wrong thing (be a poor sport,
using hurtful words, not listening or following directions, using equipment in
wrong way, etc.). Students will then point out misbehaviors.
3. Student examples (Positive/correct behavior)
Follow directions and activity rules.
Respond appropriately when an adult intervenes, using a respectful tone of
voice and good manners.
Be responsible when using equipment. Put equipment away when the bell rings.
Line up quickly and safely.
Treat people right and do the right thing

4. Practice
Practice opportunities include: lunch groups/assembly/instructional recess;
individual classroom practice as needed.
5. Other/Summary:
When you are using ARMS expectation you will be acting appropriately on the
playground: actively listen for directions, responsibility for your actions and
attitude, use good manners, and practice self-control!
