ข้าวและคนไทย

“ข้าวคือมิ่งขวัญ คือจิตวิญญาณของคนไทย” พระมหาวุฒิชัย (ว. ชิรเมธี)

ข้าวเป็นพืชชนิดหนึ่งที่มักถูกนำมาเป็นส่วนประกอบของอาหารจานหลัก หรือนำมารับ
ประทานคู่กับอาหารชนิดอื่นๆ ไม่ว่ายุคสมัยจะเปลี่ยนแปลงไปเพียงไร ข้าวก็ยังเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชาว
ไทยทุกคน และเมื่อมีข้าวแล้วสิ่งที่ขาดไม่ได้นั่นคือ ‘ชาวนา’ ผู้ซึ่งเป็นบุคคลที่ปลูกและเก็บเกี่ยวข้าว
ให้คนไทยได้รับประทาน หากไม่มีบุคคลสำคัญเหล่านี้ซึ่งเปรียบเสมือนกระดูกสันหลังของชาติแล้ว
ประเทศไทยคงจะไม่ได้ขึ้นชื่อว่าเป็นแผ่นดินแห่งข้าว

ในการประกวดประดิษฐ์ชุดรีไซเคิลนั้น ห้อง๑๒๐๒นั้นได้มีแนวคิดที่จะประดิษฐ์ชุดผู้หญิงใน
หัวข้อที่เกี่ยวกับชาวนา ซึ่งหลังจากที่สมาชิกในห้องได้ระดมความคิดอย่างถี่ถ้วนแล้วนั้น พวกเรา
ตระหนักได้ว่า ไม่ว่าจะคนไทยหรือชาวต่างชาติเมื่อนึกถึงประเทศไทยแล้วก็จะนึกถึงข้าว และเราก็
คำนึงว่า หากไม่มีชาวนานั้น ข้าวไทยก็ไม่สามารถเกิดขึ้นได้ ตั้งแต่สมัยสุโขทัยชาวนานั้นเป็นอาชีพ
หลักของชาวไทยและเป็นอาชีพที่ยึดถือปฏิบัติกันมาเรื่อยๆ อาชีพนี้นั้นไม่เพียงแต่การผลิตข้าวให้
ประชาชนทาน แต่ยังเป็นแสดงถึงวิถีชีวิตของคนในชาติและยังเป็นบ่อเกิดของวัฒนธรรม ความเชื่อ
จิตวิญญาณ และศิลปะที่เป็นทั้งเอกลักษณ์และอัตลักษณ์ของชาวไทย และในปัจจุบันนั้นข้าวเป็น
สินค้าส่งออกนอกประเทศซึ่งเป็นรายได้หลักของประเทศไทย หากไม่มีข้าวนั้นเศรษฐกิจของไทยอาจ
จะไม่ได้รุ่งเรืองเฉกเช่นทุกวันนี้ หากแต่คนไทยนั้นมักจะละเลยถึงความสำคัญของอาชีพชาวนา ผู้คน
มักจะคิดว่าการเป็นชาวนานั้นเป็นอาชีพที่ต่ำต้อย ซึ่งเหล่านี้เป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้สมาชิกในห้องเห็นความ
สำคัญของชาวนาอย่างถ่องแท้ และต้องการที่จะแสดงให้ผู้อื่นเห็นว่าอาชีพนี้ก็ไม่ได้ด้อยไปกว่า
อาชีพอื่นๆ พวกเราผลิตชุดที่แสดงถึงความเป็นชาวนาอย่างแท้จริง รวมถึงการประยุกต์ความเป็น
ไทย โบราณกับรูปทรงเสื้อผ้าสมัยใหม่ ซึ่งมาจากแนวคิดที่ว่า ถึงแม้ยุคสมัยจะเปลี่ยนและ
เทคโนโลยีซึ่งมีบทบาทกับสังคมไทยมากขึ้น ชาวนาก็ยังสามารถปรับเปลี่ยนไปตามการ
เปลี่ยนแปลงของโลกและอยู่คู่กับสังคมไทยเสมอมา

ซึ่งชุดของห้อง๑๒๐๒นั้นมีสามส่วนหลักที่แสดงถึงความเป็นชาวนาได้อย่างชัดเจน คือ
ทรงของกระโปรง ลายของชุด และหมวก ซึ่งทรงของกระโปรงนั้นเป็นแบบยาวและมีจีบที่ความ
คล้ายคลึงกับชุดในสมัยของรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนปลายที่มีความคล้ายคลึงกับชนชาติยุโรปแต่ยังคง
ความเป็นไทยไว้อย่างชัดเจน รวมถึงลายของชุดที่มีลักษณะเป็นลายตารางซึ่งมีความเหมือนกับ
ผ้าขาวม้าที่นิยมใช้ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศไทยซึ่งเป็นภูมิภาคหนึ่งที่มีการปลูกข้าว
มากที่สุดของประเทศ และหมวกที่มีลักษณะเหมือนกับหมวกของชาวนา ซึ่งหมวกนี้นั้นเป็นหมวกที่ไม่
ว่าใครเห็น ก็จะต้องนึกถึงชาวนาเป็นสิ่งแรก ดังนั้นจึงได้นำหมวกนี้มาใส่ควบคู่กับชุดซึ่งจะทำให้
บ่ง บอกถึงความเป็นชาวนามากยิ่งขึ้น

ทั้งนี้ทั้งนั้นการประดิษฐ์ชุดจากสิ่งของรีไซเคิลนี้ได้เสร็จสิ้นอย่างสมบูรณ์ ไม่เพียงแต่การที่
สมาชิกได้รับรู้ถึงความสำคัญของชาวนาและความเป็นไทย แต่พวกเรายังได้เรียนรู้ที่จักการมี
ความรับผิดชอบ การแก้ปัญหาต่างๆ และที่สำคัญการช่วยเหลือซึ่งกันและกันจนทำให้งานชิ้นสำคัญ
เสร็จสิ้นสมบูรณ์ได้

Rice and Thai

“Rice is the cherish possession, it is the soul of nation” Pramaha Vuttichai Wachiramatee

Rice is a type of crops that is often used as one part of Thai cuisine or used to eat with
other dishes. No matter how much time has passed, rice is still a part of Thai people. To have
rice, what is necessary to us is ‘the farmer.’ Farmer is a person who raises field crops and
harvests them for Thai people to consume. Without this group of pivotal people who are the
spine of nation, Thailand would not be consider as the land of rice.

In this recycle clothing competition, our class 1202 has an idea to create a woman’s dress
with the concept of the farmer. After our class has brainstorming our ideas thoughtfully, we
realize that for both Thai people of foreigners, when we think of Thailand, the first thing that will
come to our mind is rice. Also, we have considered that, without farmer, we would not have our
Thai rice. Since the period of Sukhothai Kingdom, farmer has been the main career for Thai
people and it is still remain the same nowadays. This career is not just to grow crops and harvest
for the people to eat, but it shows the lifestyle of people in this country, and it also the origin of
Thai culture, beliefs, spirit, and art which are the identity of Thai people. Currently, rice is one of
our export products which creates the main income of the country. If there is no rice, the
economics in Thailand might not be as good as it is today. Even with this much importance, Thai
people still cannot see the importance of the farmer. Myriad of people usually think that being a
farmer is a low-grade career. With all these reasons, our class sees the significance of farmer and
wants to show other people that a farmer is dignified career. We created a dress that exactly
shows the identity of a farmer. We adapted Thai traditional dress with modern dress with the
thought that even if the time has changed and technology becomes a part of Thai society more
and more, farmer can still adapt to the changes of the world and stay with our society all along.

The dress from our class 1202 has three parts that really show the identity of a farmer
which are the shape of the skirt, the pattern, and the hat. It has a long pleated skirt which is
similar to clothes in Rattanakosin Era and the European, but it is still Thai style. The pattern on
the cloth is scott which is similar to the cloth in the North Eastern part of Thailand where the rice
most grown in the country. The hat look similar to the hat of the farmer. When anyone sees this
hat, the first thing that will come up in their mind will be the farmer. Therefore, using this hat
along with the cloth will represent the farmer well.

Being able to completely create the dress from waste materials, we not only learned the
importance of farmer and Thai tradition, but we also learned to be responsible, to solve problem,
and to help each other to complete our work.
