Nepal government declares 2016-2026 as National Energy

Crisis Reduction and Electricity Development Decade

KATHMANDU, NEPAL: The government has on Thursday declared a National Energy Crisis Reduction and
Electricity Development Decade (2016-2026) with the aim to end the existing energy crisis of the country and
to develop hydropower projects.

During the period, the government has planned not only end the current power crisis but also develop the
hydropower project.

Though the declaration of energy crisis is common phenomena in Nepal, a meeting of the Council of
Ministers has endorsed the ambitious work plan forwarded by the Ministry of Energy.

As per the plan, existing load shedding hours will be reduced within a year and ending it in the next two
years by importing electricity from India to completely end the load shedding within three years.

According to the plan the remaining seven year period will concentrate on developing the hydropower
sector.
