• In 2013, green space area in Jakarta was only 9.8 % of total Jakarta area or around 64.95 km2.

III. RPTRA (Child Friendly Integrated Public Space)
Background

• In early 2015 JCCG (Jakarta Capital City Government) published new policy to revitalize
some community parks to become multi-uses interactive community park.
• The idea comes up because Jakarta has lack of public space that can be used as
community center and evacuation area for disaster mitigation. Considering these
situations, government decides to develop public space that functions not only as
green open space but also as community center, named RPTRA (Child Friendly
Integrated Public Space).
• This program is based on government’s commitment to improve citizen’s quality of
life, especially chidren; considering there are limited numbers of playground, as well as
lack of space for citizen’s social needs. Besides, RPTRA in the future is planned to be
utilized as evacuation area.
