Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they

cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.

The reading states that the pattern of lines discovered in the Sinosauropteryx’s fossils are
not proof enough to confirm that this dinosaur was feathered. Nevertheless, the lecturer
believes it is not true. She explains how the fossil’s evidences are very strong.
Consequently, she opposes each of text`s reasons.

Firstly, the reading exposes that those fine line could have formed after the dinosaur’s
death. However, according to the teacher, those lines could not have produced by the
decomposition of the skin. This is because none of the other animals founded in the same
place presents similar conditions. In fact, she adds how the functional skin structure have
been conserved by the ashes. Thereby, the mentioned lines could be evidences of feathers.

Secondly, the text explains how the critics regard that the lines surrounding the skeleton
could be remains of frills. The professor refutes this point. She supports her opinion in the
fact that exists a chemical difference between frills and feathers. On the one hand, feathers
contain high levels of Beta-carotene. On the other hand, frill do not. Therefore, thanks to
the presence of this protein on the Sinosauroptery’s remains, the lecturer could consider
that this dinosaur was a feathered one.

Thirdly, according to the article, feathers are used to fly or regulate temperature. But, those
are not the only use of this structures. The professor explains how other birds uses their
feather for meeting a partner. She calls this use as displace function. Furthermore, recent
researches illustrate how those dinosaurs were colorful. Consequently, the teacher
concludes that this fact supports the idea which Sinosauropteryx uses its feathers for
display.
