Phase 4
Phase 4
Hopes for happiness was born when one day when we were all sitting together during
lunch and wondering what in the world could we as students do to create change in our
community. Our passion to help our community was present in all of us. We were all
raised in similar household and shared the value of giving back to the community. Yet
we did not know what to do for our senior service project. That was until we sat down
one day during lunch bouncing ideas off each other trying to come up with a project. At
first we thought about volunteering at an animal shelter but than we dismissed that idea
because we wanted to do something more significant. That was when uriel suggested
we should start fundraising for christmas gifts for the kids who weren’t able to get one
due to their families financial status. The next day we started doing research and found
that the salvation army participates in these kind of events. They were delighted to hear
that a group of seniors wanted to help out. So the next day we went out grabbed some
tickets, distributed them, and wrote down the names of the teachers who were willing to
participate. After three weeks we collected the gifts and drove down to the salvation
army and donated the christmas gifts. We were welcomed with cheers and applauses.
From this senior service project we all grew and learned many new things. Reflecting
back on our work we were able to take action, recognize perspectives and communicate
ideas.
