Method Statement
Concreting Pile Cap

I. Pre-Concreting Inspection

- Prior to concreting works for a structural member, carry out joint inspection with
consultant/COW on the preparation made and ensure the formwork and steel
reinforcement are in compliance with the construction drawings and criteria set out in
the Pre-Concreting Checklist. (IA/FORM/PR1MA/RI/C&S01)
- After the approval of pre-concreting inspection by consultant/COW, then is allowed to
proceed the works unless remedial works to be carry out and re-inspection required.

II. Construction Method

- Concrete Pouring and Vibrating

1. The approved concrete grade will be transported to the site from RMC supplier.
Each mixer truck delivery on site, slump test will be taken for record.
2. Concrete pump and/or concrete bucket lifted by crane shall be used for pouring
concrete wherever applicable.
3. Concreting for a single structural element shall be cast continuously to eliminate
cold joints. The compaction of the concrete using concrete vibrator and needles to
ensure that concrete does not appear cold joints, vibrating dense and timely leveling
compaction. If some reason not able to continuous pouring then a construction joint
will be provided.

4. If concreting is to commence from a construction joint, roughen the surface of the

hardened concrete before placing fresh concrete against it.
5. Point to the final concrete level in one operation in horizontal layers.

6. The concrete will be laid up to the required levels, setting the elevation point on bar
or formwork and concrete surface will be finished as smooth as required.
7. After concrete casting and finishing in early period of hydration, sprinkle water in
surface of pile cap following by a layer of plastic sheet and wet gunny bags. (refer
to MS Curing)
8. After the concreting works is complete, dismantling of formwork will be carried
out after 2days for <1.5m height of pile cap, and 3days for >1.5m height of pile
cap.

III. Post Concreting Inspection

- Upon removal of formwork, carry out joint inspection with consultant/COW on the
completed structures. (IA/FORM/PR1MA/RI/C&S02)
- Check the structural members for dimensions and the finished levels. Inspect the
concrete surface for any honeycombing, cracks and visibility of reinforcement bars.
- Obtain acceptance from the consultant/COW that the structural members are
satisfactory and meet the specifications and construction drawings.
