ACTIVE STILLS

 5 DEFINITIONS
• Inalienable Rights- rights that cannot be surrendered, sold or transferred to
someone else
• Institutionalized Discrimination- refers to the unjust and discriminatory
mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals by society and its
institutions as a whole
• Oppression- prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control
• Migrate- tending to migrate or having migrated
• Asylum-Seeker- a person who has left their home country as a political
refugee and is seeking asylum in another
 DESCRIPTION AND THEIR MISSION
• Active Stills was established in 2005 by a group of photographers. They
created Active Stills because of a strong conviction that photography is a
vehicle for social and political changes.
 PROBLEM BEING ADDRESSED
• Active Stills works on various topics including: the Palestinian popular struggle
against the Israeli occupation, rights of women, LGTBQ, migrants and
asylum-seekers, public housing, and other forms of economic oppression.
 SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS
• Active Stills has started multiple social media campaigns that help spread
awareness of these events that have affected many individuals and groups
in a negative way. Active Stills has photographers that take pictures of these
events that happen and post them on multiple social media platforms to
spread awareness of these events.
 AWARDS AND SUCCESSES
• Currently Active Stills has not received any awards, but they have had some
success spreading awareness of the these events they are trying to make
known. They have a total of just under 40,000 photos that makes these
problems known and spread awareness of these events that have made an
impact on many.
