“Itaipu” could be translated as “Singing Stone” or “Singer Stone”
2. What was one of the biggest problems in the region that the construction of Itaipu
solved?
 One of the biggest problems was the drought. There was not enough water to drink
in that time.
3. What did Itaipu do to protect wildlife?
 “Itaipu” created seven distinct habitat areas in order to preserve the wildlife and the
flora.

 It could have been built 380 Eiffel Towers with that amount of iron and steel

 In my opinion, Itaipu is more important to Paraguay because:
a. Is a massive touristic point for the country
b. Itaipu is responsible for, almost, 70% of the electricity that is consumed in
the country
c. Itaipu has a social responsivity, which consists in contribute in Paraguay's
economy and infrastructure development

 In accordance with the Itaipu treaty, Paraguay is bound to pay a financial
assistance within 50 years by selling its surplus power at cost.
8. What do you know about the "Belo Monte" Dam on the Xingu River, in Brazil?
 Belo Monte will be the world’s third-largest hydroelectric dam. There are a lot of
controversy in its build because of the environment impact that will be generated.
