ABOUT ME______________________________

Brian Aldrimk
Mechanical engineer

Brian Aldrimk is a senior at the University of where he is pursuing

a B.A. in mechanical engineering.

Brian was an undergraduate research assistant where he worked

on various projects for the Neurophysiological Imaging and
Modeling Laboratory in Moscow, Idaho. His most recent project
was a pump which mimics the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in
Human Spine. Brian was also a member of the Humanitarian
Engineering Corps at the University of Idaho and was a member of
the National Association of Black Engineers.

Brian grew up in the Island of Java in Indonesia and is now living

with his family in Idaho. In his free time, Brian enjoys being active,
play sports and travelling.
Neuroforce is a compact, low cost,
oscillatory-flow pump which produces
a realistic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
flow conditions within a given range of
human/animal cerebrospinal models.
Neuroforce mimics cardiac and
respiratory frequencies and has
adjustable frequency and flow volume.

I started working on this project in

January of 2017 under the
supervision of Dr. Bryn Martin from
the Neurophysiological Imaging and
Modeling Laboratory and continued it
for my capstone project along with 3
other mechanical engineering
students, Krissy Buckler, Claire
Majors, and Nick Shaber.

The first prototype which I designed

and built uses a scotch and yoke
mechanism to move the syringe. It
could only produce one frequency and
the size was quite huge. The goal for
my senior capstone project is to
reduce the size and create a
programable pump with adjustable
frequency and stroke volume.
Detailed specification provided by our
client is shown below
The picture above shows all the parts used in our design.

Specification provided by our client. We were able to meet all the specification with
one exception for it being MRI compatible.

The purple wave is obtained from inside the
spinal column using a pressure transducer. The
yellow line is a potentiometer reading of the
position of the linear actuator. Our linear actuator
has a built in potentiometer which provides
position feedback.

Solidworks Project – Diesel Engine

In this project we created a complete Solidworks model, engineering drawing, and animation of
a diesel engine. The Solidworks model consists of 9 subassemblies and more than 100 parts in
total. A sample the engineering drawing is attached. This project was completed with the 5 other
people, Collin Mabe, Krissy Buckler, Cameron Moore, Zach Lipple, and Hunter Trulock.
INVERTED PENDULUM

The inverted pendulum uses an

Arduino Uno for the
microcontroller. It runs using an
accelerometer which senses the
angle and control the speed and
direction of the stepper motor. The
speed of the stepper motor
increases as the stick is rotated
farther from the 0 angle
