Analyze the philosophy of government expressed in the 


Main Idea  Declaration of Independence​, with an emphasis on 
government as a means of securing individual rights.  

- In 1774, Americans were very upset because they 


had gotten a bunch of terrible acts.  
- Coercive Acts - a series of measures imposed by

- In 1775, the second Continental Congress formed

- About 5 years later, they realized the continental

- They wrote the Articles of Confederation 
Then what? 
- First attempt of the branches of 
government 
- The Constitution replaced it all in 1789

- On July 4, 1776, the 2nd continental congress 


signed and approved the Declaration of 
Independence
