Topic: Phonemic Awareness /I/

C.C & State Standard: RF.K.2d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and

final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel- consonant, or CVC)

words.

Objective: Students will be able to correctly identify words that starts with /i/ and

has medial sounds of /i/.

Student Friendly Objective: I can say words that start with /i/ and have sounds in

the middle.

Assessment: Students will complete notebook page 3.

Anticipatory Set: I will get their attention by playing a short card game. I will use

the letter cards to show them to the students. Whichever card I hold up they will

make the sound for it. (/i/ /o/ and /a/)

Activate Prior Knowledge: I will activate prior knowledge by reviewing the letter

sound for /i/. I will remind them that these letters are vowels. I will ask for

examples of words that start with /i/.

Input/Modeling: After we get a few examples I will give a few examples as well. We

will give a few examples and then we will go over the flip chart page 34. (Fish, fin,

fist, in, it, pin, lip igloo, and ship)

Check for Understanding/Guided Practice: I will check for understanding as we

go over the flip chart page 47 together.

Closure: I will review the lesson by stating what the objective of knowing words

that have /i/ in them.


Independent Practice: We will then go back to their desks where they will do the

notebook page 3.

Differentiated Instruction/Accommodations: For students that struggle I will

come around during independent practice and help then brake down the words

slower and help them individually.
