Think…
Is this procedure at a ‘not

level? Why?
What is a procedure?

When do we use procedures?

Why is it important to follow a procedure?

Why is it important to write a detailed

procedure?
I can write a draft of a procedure to explain to someone how to do something.

I can write a procedure for how to make a peanut butter

and jelly sandwich.

I can use my procedure to co-create an exemplar procedure.

Let’s make a good procedure together!

1. First, gather the bread, peanut butter, and jelly. Also, gather a plate and knife.
(gather the materials)

2. Then, put one piece of bread on your plate.

3. After that/next, put one or two scoops of peanut butter on the bread with a knife,
then spread it. Use a knife to take small scoops of peanut butter.

4. Then, spread one or two scoops of jelly on top of the peanut butter with a knife. Use
a knife to take small scoops of jelly.

5. Finally, put the other piece of bread on top of the peanut butter and jelly.

6. Last, you can eat!

I can use my procedure and mentor materials to create a list of what makes a good procedure.

What makes a good procedure?

1. I have transition words in every step of my procedure.

2. I used specific words in my steps.
3. I put my directions in the right order.
4. I add details to each step.
5. I numbered each step to show what order to follow the procedure in.
6. I told the reader the materials that are needed.
7. I told the reader about what the goal of the procedure.
8. I told the reader how much was needed of the materials.
I can reflect and set a goal for revising my procedure using the criteria list.

If I compare my procedure to the criteria list, am I at…

Yes!

What goal can I set for myself when I revise this procedure
and write new procedures, such as in science?
