Re: Clare Devlin
To Whom It May Concern;
Jt was my pleasure to have been a Student Teacher Supervisor for Clare Devlin who served as a student teacher in
grade 4 at the Chaparral Elementary School in the Capistrano USD, CA, during the winter quarter of the 2015-2016
school year.
| found Clare demonstrates the flexibility necessary to be an effective teacher. Her lessons were adjusted to meet the
individual needs of students. She created a classroom environment that was engaging, stimulating, student centered,
interesting and fun. Clare enjoys teaching which can be seen by the enthusiasm and personal charm she displayed in
the classroom. She has a great smile which was evident during her interactions with the children.
Clare participated in a paired student teaching assignment. This organizational approach highlighted the cooperative
efforis of two student teachers assigned to an outstanding Mentor Teacher. Each of the two student teachers worked
closely. together in planning, assessment as well as instruction. Clare demonstrated in this paired model, the ability to
work with and support the efforts of her partner student teacher, her Mentor Teacher, and others at her grade level.
Clare had a number of very successful experiences at Chaparral. Chaparral School is a laptop school, and the
classroom in which Clare taught integrates technology in all aspects of the instructional program. She used Google
Does, Glogster and Edmodo on a daily basis. She provided an integrated curricular approach when developing her
units. Each of her lessons were carefully scaffold and built upon hands-on and visual supports. For example a unit
developed in fractions focused on fraction strips, Cuisenaire rods, pattern blocks, and other representations to allow
students to gain conceptual understanding.
[ found Clare to be a very effective student teacher. She is a quick leamer which was demonstrated early in her
assignment by her understanding of the classroom organization, academic program, and routines. Her master teacher
provided a superb model for Clare, and after a few weeks in her assignment, she demonstrated the ability to fully
implement all of the programs and procedures.
Clare had an excellent student teaching experience at Chaparral Elementary School. Her Master Teacher was very
pleased with how well she accepted suggestions, assumed responsibility, and worked as a team member in the
classroom.
[ am confident Clare will be a strong asset to any school.
Please feel free to call if can answer any questions regarding Clare's professional abilities.
