Literacy Promotion in the Library

This topic research submission is considered evaluation because it shows what

programs and incentives are valuable in promoting literacy in an elementary library. In

evaluating literacy promotion, there will be decision making and improvement of the

current library programs at Country Lane Intermediate.

Country Lane Intermediate lost their Accelerated Reading program the 2017-

2018 school year. Teachers, librarians, and principals are still looking for school wide

incentives to promote literacy that can replace their previous reading program that will

continue to increase books read and checked out from the library. In evaluating other

incentives, there can be alternatives to AR implemented that are not given in the form of

test taking. Observation and analysis of other schools’ reading programs will assist in

answering some of the research questions. Another way of answering the questions

are by researching other methods of literacy promotion through articles could assist in

answering the following research questions.

Possible research questions include:

1. How will readers be held accountable for their reading?

2. What programs or incentives (independent) will promote a positive reading

culture in the school (dependent)?

3. What is the librarian’s role in managing school wide reading incentives?
