2. Grammar: “modal should and could”
 A modal verb is a type of auxiliary verb. It must
always come together with another verb.
Modal verb + Base form verb
- Should: It’s used to give advice or strong
suggestion.
- Could: It’s used to make weak suggestion.
- Can: It’s is used to talk about ability or
possibility.
She should buy a cake.
I could buy a cake.
I can buy a cake.
I should be a millionaire.

 The negative form of the modal verbs are:
- Should not Shouldn’t
- Could not Couldn’t
- Can not Can’t
She shouldn’t go to Cuba.

What should a librarian do in these situations?

1. If someone is walking quietly in the library, trying


not to make any loud noise.
The librarian shouldn’t do anything.
2. If someone makes a little noise in the library.
The librarian should say “silence”.
3. If someone is very noisy in the library.
The librarian should take out the person.
4. If someone steals a book from the library.
The librarian should call the security guard.
5. If someone makes a mess in the library.
The librarian should take out the person.
6. If someone is talking to a group of people in the
library.
The librarian should ask them to be quiet.
 The librarian should be friendly with the
students.

The librarian shouldn’t take out the guy.
