Listening Section
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken
English. There are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.
Part I. Pictures
Questions: 1 to 3.
Directions:
There are three items in this part. For each item, you will see a picture and you will hear four
short statements. The statements will be spoken TWICE. They will not be printed in your test
paper, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying. When you hear
the four statements, look at the picture in your test paper and choose the statement that best
describes what you see in the picture. Then on your answer sheet, find the number of the
question and mark your answer.
Example:
Look at the picture and listen to the four sentences.
Choice (B) – “Some apples are in the basket” – is the best answer to describe the picture.
Therefore, you should mark (B) on your answer sheet.
Now let’s begin with picture number 1.
You will hear : How many people are going to the seminar?
You will also hear : (A) There were seventy people there.
(B) I don’t think she is coming.
(C) At least 150 people.
The best response to the question “How many people are going to the seminar?” is choice (C) –
“At least 150 people” – Therefore, you should mark (C) on your answer sheet.
Now let’s begin with question number 4.
Directions:
There are four items in this part of the test. For each item, you will hear a short conversation
between two people. You will hear the conversations TWICE. They will not be printed in your
test paper, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying.
In your test paper, you will read a question about each conversation. The question will be
followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question, and mark it on
your answer sheet.
Example:
You will hear: Man : Good morning. Can I have your ticket, please?
Woman : Here you are.
Man : Then here’s your boarding pass. Have a nice flight.
Woman : Thank you.
You will read: Where does the dialogue probably take place?
A. At a hospital.
B. At an airport.
C. At a market.
D. At a school.
Narrator : Answer (B) – “At an airport” – is the best answer to the question, “Where does the
dialogue probably take place?” Therefore, you should mark (B) on your answer
sheet.

In this part of the test, you will hear several short talks. Each will be spoken TWICE. They will
not be printed in. your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand and remember what
is being said.
In your test paper, you will read two or more questions about each short talk. Each question will
be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it
on your answer sheet.
