Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For ELL’s I will supply copies of the e-book to have in front of them so
they can follow along with the audio file. If students are having trouble grasping the concept, the teacher
could provide headphones and an individual recording for the student to listen through multiple times.
Lesson idea implementation:
The lesson will begin by the students listening to the e-book created by the teacher. It is
interactive, meaning they will have to answer the questions that the book asks (i.e. how many lions
do you see?). Then they will be split into pairs and sent around the room to count objects that I have
placed around the room. I will have them place them in order from smallest amount (one) to the
biggest amount. This will also help them with writing their numbers.
Students will then be taken on a nature walk or the playground to count things. They will record
the data and bring it back inside. There they will fill out a new PowerPoint as a class with the
teacher’s assistance. The teacher will then be able to make it into a new e-book that can be printed
out and put in the reading station in the classroom.
Reflective Practice: I could improve the lesson by sharing the book with other classes in the same grade level.
The teacher could even ask the media center specialist if the class’s homemade book could be displayed in
the library. That way other students could check it out if they wanted.
