but can be
dangerous

We certainly had a
good deal of rainfall on
Feb 20 in the area. My
rain gauge showed 3 inch-
es. The rain was certainly
appreciated. Some people
had destructive winds as
well. Tim and Katherine
Carson and grandson John
had such winds. A storage
building was hit and part
of their porch roof was re-
moved. Thankfully no one
was injured.
•The monthly meeting
of the Keith Civic club was
held at the Keith Commu-
nity Center on Thursday,
Feb l23 with a good num-
ber in attendance. The
covered dish meal served
at 6:30 p.m. was enjoyed
by all in attendance. At
7:30 p.m. the club entered
into its business meet-
ing at which a variety of
business was discussed,
including some possible
fundraisers. These will
be in future columns of
the Keith News. Host and
hostess for the meeting
were Mac and Lura Mc-
Bride.
•There were some 66
people or families that
carne out to the lola Food
Pantry on Saturday, Fe~
18 to take advantage of the
food being distributed to
those i{l need of a helping
hand. Thanks to all those
that assisted in any way,
both those that helped box
the food and those that
helped in the distribution.
•Our lola Volunteer
Fire Department were
called out last week to
a house fire on CR 175.
The house had damage to
the interior. This house
is where there was once
a paintball business. We
are certainly fortunate to
have such a fine group of
volunteers. God bless each
of them.
•The monthly meeting
of the Orphans Friend Ma-
sonic Lodge No. 17 will
have its lodge meeting on
Monday, March 6, begin-
ning at 6:30 p.m. with a
covered dish meal and to
be followed at 7:30 p.m.
by the business meeting.
All Master Masons are in-
vited to attend.
•Evergreen Free Will
Baptist Church will host
a fish fry at the lola Fire
Station in lola on Satur-
day, March 4, beginning
at 5 p.m. The money will
help send church kids to
church camp this summer.
Do mark it on your cal-
endar and make plans to
attend.
•There was a good turn-
out of people at the Don-
key basketball game at the
lola High School gym on
Feb. 20. Prior to the game,
fried fish with all the trim-
mings were served. This
is to raise money for the
juniors and seniors of the
school. Thanks to all that
participated in any way.

baked cakes and pies: for
the silent and live auction
as well.

VFW holds regular meeting
Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 4006 and Aux-
iliary met on Thursday
for a combined meal with
separate monthly busi-
ness meetings following.
Unfortunately, I was at a
visitation in Brenham and
missed the gathering.
The Auxiliary had 10
members present and
discussed a list of topics.
The next scheduled meet-
ing will be on Thursday,
March 16, with the Aux-
iliary serving the meal. If
you are a member, former
member or even prospec-
tive member, please come
join our group.
•Jordan and his girl-
friend, Kaleigh, took me
out to eat last Saturday
and then they spent the
night with me. It was nice
of them to spend time with
the old grandma.
I was given the spe-
cial treat of riding in the
Dodge with Jordan. Let’s
just say that it is not the
same truck that I drove all
those years ago. I had to
use a step-stool to get in
since he removed the nerf
bars I had installed. Get-
ting out was a breeze; you
just slide on out.
•Since it seems I have
been running to various
places, you know like
High Point, the doctor’s
appointments and cook-
ing more, I have not heard
much news from the com-
munity. I did notice that
Brittany Schroeder posted
on social media that she
and William are expect-
ing. I bet Melinda is ex-
cited about being a grand-
mother.
•Bonnie and Ken Cox
have been busy taking
care of business in Hous-
ton and she and I can’t
seem to catch each oth-
er at convenient times to
visit.
•A.J. Kolojaco is about
the same per Mrs. Sue.
Richards graduate taking the field
Welcome, sunshine.
Welcome, spring.
It is never to late to
dream, big dreams. Just
ask Travelle Lewis, a
2015 graduate of Rich-
ards School. Travelle is
playing basketball for
the Lone Star College in
Tomball this year. Trav-
elle is just trying to make
his dream of playing pro-
fessional basketball a re-
ality.
I feel certain that we
will be hearing a lot more
about this young athlete.
He is very determined.
Just wishing him the very
best. Perhaps maybe,
if you were passing on
the road between Rich-
ards and Navasota, you
just may have caught a
glimpse of him.
While Travelle was
conditioning himself
to be the very best bas-
ketball player he could
possibly be. He thought
nothing of the challenge,
like most of us would, as
he ran from his home in
Richards to “McDonalds”
in Navasota. That is 20
miles. Travelle’s favorite
Bible verse is Philippians
4:13: “I can do all things
through Christ which
strengtheneth me.”

and his daughter, Joy

They don’t get out much
anymore so if you have
a chance; give her a call
to let them know you are
thinking about them.
•Dennis Shive has had
his ups and downs and is
still at St. Joseph’s Hospi-
tal. The last time I visited
with Mrs. Shive, she said
he was doing much better.
•I noticed that Denice
has been working some
again at the White Hall
Store and that is fantastic.
Glad that she is feeling
better.
•My cousin, Beckie,
had her shoulder surgery
and she is doing well for it
being the day of the actual
surgery. Now, tomorrow
may be a different sto-
ry. I used her as a guinea
pig and took some of my
latest cake. I think it was
good, based on the sounds
she was making as she ate
it. Seriously, I would do
anything to make her feel
good.
•Having nice weather
this week, I have want-
ed to get out and work
in those flower beds.
Hopefully, I can arrange
some time this weekend,
if nothing but ride my
lawnmower. Mowing is
relaxing and I know that
I share this feeling with
Dorothy Holtkamp. When
we worked at TAMU, I
think we both did mowing
on some of our vacation
time. Country living at its
best.
