THE LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

Introduction

Liturgical Ministry is an excellent opportunity for us Christians to perform our baptismal calling to
serve God and one another. It is a one way of involvement in the body of Christ with full and
active participation to the living sacrament offered by Jesus. This is an essential practice to
deepen ones commitment of service and most importantly to nourish ones faith in the life of
Christ. Thus, enables every committed individual to walk in the light of Christian virtues and
morality to strengthen oneself against all challenges in today’s reality. As Saint Paul wrote in
one of his books in the Bible, “Faith without action is dead”, in one way or another everyone can
associate what Saint Paul have said, that through ones involvement in any liturgical ministry can
transform ones faith in ones daily lives and deeds.

Rationale

This ministry is greatly to preserve and help the students to enrich their seed of faith as they will
understand their roles and responsibilities as baptized Christian. Moreover, such initiative of
establishing these liturgical ministries such as Ministry of the Word, Altar Servers, PCCian
Chorister and Marian/Vocation Club is a benefit to every Christian as they will learn the mystery
of serving “behind the scenes”. It is therefore, a helping hand in learning more and
understanding little of ones Christian faith are primary objectives why, we Christians are need to
be involved in all the life giving sacraments offered by Jesus for our salvation.

Character of the Liturgical Ministries as a Group

1. Christ Centered

Jesus is the center of the life and mission of the Liturgical Ministries. We look up to him as the
Divine Master whom we serve and Good Shepherd that we are following. The fruitfulness of the
group depends on our deep connection to him. Our centeredness in Christ enables us to bring
his love to brothers and sisters in the community, our little acre of grace, Pasig Catholic College.
As a Christ centered group, the Liturgical Ministries instill in hearts and minds of its member the
love for Jesus by bringing them back to sacraments, most especially in the sacrament of
Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist. Honoring Jesus who is truly and forever present in the
Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar is plays a significant role in the life of all the members of the
Liturgical Ministries.

2. Marian

The Liturgical Ministries see the Blessed Virgin Mother as our guide and our sole and sure way
to our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Mary is our mother, queen and
model in loving and serving the Lord. As a group with a Marian character, devotion to our
Blessed Mother is a great part of our way of life as a group. The Liturgical Ministries deepens
the love and devotion of all its members to our Blessed Mother so that they become her helper
in bringing her Son, Jesus Christ, to the world. We honor the Blessed Virgin Mary dedicating

3. Movement
Pasig Catholic College
College Department
THE LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

Movement in the context of the Liturgical Ministries means “active”. The Liturgical Ministries is
an active group of young Catholic Christians working together as one in the service of our Lord
Jesus Christ and Church. Being an active group is our sole realization of our oneness in Christ,
the vine who wants his followers to bear much fruitful.
Being a movement, the Liturgical ministries reach out to the community by initiating programs
and activities that will enhance and enrich the faith and love for the Lord of all our brothers and
sisters in the community. By doing this, the Liturgical Ministries shares in the mission of our
“little acre of grace”, the Pasig Catholic College in empowering the youth for the building of the
local Church.

“The Liturgical Ministries is a Christ centered Marian Movement of young Catholic

students working together as one in response to our School’s mission of empowering the
youth for building of the local Church, the Body of Christ.”

Marks of a Member of the Ministry

The Liturgical Ministries, having a character of Christ-centered Marian Movement envision its
members to acquire this same character in their own personalities as Catholic believer, student,
and member of the Ministries. Therefore, The Liturgical Ministries aims to see the following
marks in all of its members:

1. A Christ-Centered Person

As a member of the Ministries, he/she must be a person that has a deep relationship with our
Lord, a person with deep prayer life and brings Jesus wherever he/she may go. He/she is
person that always live the Gospel Values of our Lord at all times most especially in making
important decisions in life and a person who always approach our Lord through the Sacraments.

2. Marian

As a Marian Community, all of the members of the Ministries are called to imitate Mary, a
prayerful and obedient person. We lived the message of prayer and penance, which Our Lady
thought to us in all her apparitions particularly in Fatima. We pray to the Blessed Mother at all
times and her Rosary whenever possible and practice “perfection of daily duties” as our
penance. We try to attain excellence and Christian perfection in everything that we do like what
Pasig Catholic College envisions each of her Children to be “persons of character and
competence”.

3. Active Members of the Church

Life and service does not end in School, and so as well in the Ministries. The call of our Lord for
us to become active disciples of Church extends even outside the portals of the community,
therefore, the ministries inspires her members to serve in their respective Parishes and
communities using their talents and the formation that they gain from the Ministries.

Functions and Descriptions

Ministry of the Word

Pasig Catholic College

increase of the Lord’s harvest to the religious vocation and the spiritual nourishment and
intentions of our priest. They also join those who serve the mass by serving as ushers and
collectors.

Patron Saints

The Blessed Virgin Mary

(August 15 & July 12)

The Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of our Lady of the Assumption is the Ministry’s primary
and internal patroness. Mary, Jesus’ perfect disciple from womb to tomb is our model in
following and serving the Lord. The Ministry look up to Our Lady’s simplicity, humble service
and perfect obedience to the will of the Father as the ideal virtues and character a member of
the Ministry should possess. Our Lady’s Assumption reminds all members of their primary
mission on earth that they should try to apply in everyday living as students and in whatever
kind of calling that they choose in the future – “TO LIVE, TO LOVE AND SERVE THE LORD
AND TO BE HAPPY WITH HIM IN HEAVEN”.

On the other hand, The Liturgical Ministries founded in 12 July, the day dedicated to Our Lady,
Mary Mediatrix of All Grace also honors the Blessed Mother under this loving title. The Ministry
considers Our Lady, Mary Mediatrix of All Grace as its external Patroness and promotes
devotion to her by propagating the devotion to the Most Holy Rosary, particularly the family-
rosary, and by praying for the sanctification of all priest and religious.

St. Joseph
(March 19)

The Ministry honors St. Joseph, foster father of our Lord and the heavenly protector and helper
of our community. The Ministry follows St. Joseph’s example of great love for Jesus and Mary.
Each member should learn to love our Lord and Blessed Mother in order for them to bring the
love of Jesus and Mary to our brothers and sisters in the community in everything that we do.

St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face

(October 1)

Being one of the youth Saints of the Church and the Patroness of Mission, the Ministry honors
this great Saint as our model of serving the Lord. The ministry tries to follow her “Little Way” by
serving the Lord through the talents that he has given to us and by giving our best as students.

Formation Programs

Beside from serving the community through our outreach projects, The Liturgical Ministries also
aims to produce members that have a deep spirituality, love for the Blessed Mother and
understanding of the Catholic Faith. In order to this vision into a reality, The Liturgical Ministries
designed different formation programs that will help its members in deepening the faith. These
are the following formation programs:

1. Monthly Bonding and Spiritual Recreation

This program is similar to a monthly recollection. Every third Saturday of the month, the Ministry
gather all its members to pray, meditate and enjoy each other’s company through the Holy
Mass, inspirational talks, Gospel sharing, Eucharistic Adoration and other activities that fosters
camaraderie and spirituality to all its members.

2. Prayer Meetings
Every Saturday (afternoon), the members of the Ministry will gather to pray, share and meditate
on Word of God, particularly the Sunday Gospel. This program aims to promote love for the
scriptures, help one other in attaining spiritual maturity and prepare each member for the
Sunday Eucharistic Celebration.

3. Marian Family Visitation (block rosary)

The Marian Family Visitation is one of the programs of the Liturgical Ministries of Pasig Catholic
College under the Marian- Vocation Club. This prayer activity aims to promote Marian devotion,
the consecration of the family to Jesus through Mary by enkindling the tradition of praying the
rosary together as a family, and to pray for the sanctification of the clergy. It is inspired by the
request made by our Blessed Mother, Our Lady, Mary Mediatrix of All Grace, to propagate
devotion to her, particularly the praying of the Holy Rosary with devotion and to pray for the
sanctification of the clergy when she appeared to Sister Teresita Castillo in the garden of the
Carmelite Monastery of Lipa, Batangas in 1948. It is also similar in some ways to the “block
rosary” where in image of the Blessed Mother will be visiting homes of all members (and some
teachers who are interested to participate in this activity) and stay for a whole week. It is
schedule every Saturday after the weekly prayer meeting of the group. Assigned members for a
particular week accompanied by the moderator/adviser of the group will be the one to fetch and
transfer the Image from the latter host family to the new host family.

4. Group Annual Pilgrimage

Annually the Ministry organizes a pilgrimage activity for its members. The ministry visited
different shrines, most especially those who are entitled to our Blessed Mother, within and
outside the Diocese of Pasig. This activity aims to give the members of the community to have a
spiritual encounter with their Lord and our Blessed Mother. It also serves as a thanksgiving
gathering and celebration for all the graces that the ministry receives. This activity is schedule
after the final exam or during break period every semester /vacation.

5. Spiritual Direction

In order to guide its members in terms of faith, vocation and decision-making, the Liturgical
Ministries provides spiritual direction and counseling for entire group. Members can consult or
talk to head of the ministry and to the Spiritual Director of the group privately regarding their
problems in terms of the aspects mentioned earlier.

6. Seminar, Symposiums and Workshops

The Ministry also provides spiritual trainings for its members in a form of seminars,
symposiums, and workshops. Some of these programs are the following:
 Seminar on the Liturgy
 Seminar on Prayer life and Spirituality
 Seminar on Mariology
Pasig Catholic College
College Department
THE LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

 Workshops for Lectors and

 Rosary-making workshop

7. Recollections

Annually the ministry organizes a simple one-day Advent and Lenten recollection for all its
members in order to prepare them spiritually in receiving our Lord in their hearts during
Christmas and Easter seasons. This is also one way of bringing our members back to the
sacraments, particularly to the sacrament of reconciliation.

8. Feast Day Celebrations

The Saints help inspires us in being faithful followers of our Lord, because of this The Liturgical
Ministries celebrates the feast days of its three Patron Saints, our Blessed Mother under the
title of Our Lady of the Assumption, St. Joseph, and St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of
the Holy Face. The Ministry honor this special day prayerfully, through Eucharistic Benediction
and fellowship.

7. Summer Recreation Programs

The ensure that all its members, most especially those who will just stay in their homes, will
spend their summer vacation productively, the Liturgical Ministries offers summer recreation
programs in form of mini-sports fest, outing, film viewing and workshops. This program aims to
keep the zeal and promote camaraderie of the group. It also aims to take our members from the
“Spirit of Idleness” that brings every soul to sin as St. John Bosco said “AN IDLE MIND IS THE
DEVIL’S WORKSHOP”

Outreach Programs

Beside from the formation programs that The Liturgical Ministries offers to all its members, the
group also extends its work to the community through the various outreach programs that aims
to strengthen and deepen the faith of all PCCians and inspire them to put this faith into action
through service. These outreach programs can be done within or outside the campus.

The Liturgical Ministries at times open some of its seminars and workshops to all the students
who want to enhance their faith and knowledge on the topics tackle in these activities. The
Ministry also gives an opportunity to all its members to immerse themselves to a life of service
by visiting some charitable institutions and giving them a chance to experience serving their
brothers and sisters in that particular institution or sometimes coordinate with some groups to
bring their charitable work inside the campus to give students a chance to help. Some of these
programs are the following:

- Exhibit

- Workshops and Seminars

- Mass Sponsorship

- Symposiums

- Annual Immersion
