To whom it may concern,

I am pleased to be able to write a letter of reference for Krista Laurie.

I was her clinical instructor during a 10-week psychiatric nursing rotation at a Veteran’s
Administration Health Care System during the Fall Semester 2017. During this time, I was able
to observe and evaluate the provision of nursing care to veterans exhibiting significant and
complex psychiatric, medical and substance abuse issues.

Krista demonstrates a genuine caring in her interaction with patients. She is quiet and soft
spoken, but able to communicate well and has a talent for getting to the heart of the matter in
a minimal amount of time. She is able to revise her definition of the nursing role with each new
experience, ranging from hospice care to acutely ill psychiatric patients. She gained an
appreciation of the need for strong medical surgical skills in caring for psychiatric patients, and
the recognition of the value of therapeutic communication in other areas of nursing practice.
Her written skills are good as well, and she is able to summarize the significant information
concisely and thoroughly. She demonstrates a caring, sensitive approach during her interaction
with patients and is professional at all times. In addition to her comfort with the science of
nursing, she has developed the skill of active listening. She demonstrates determination to
reach her goals and grow, even during the most challenging of clinical situations, especially
when things did not go as expected. She used those situations to gain insight into she as well as
the patients, as in the case of those suffering from dementia. She is considerate to her fellow
students as well as staff, demonstrating her willingness to be a team player.

I would recommend Krista for any position in which intelligent, compassionate, evidence-based
nursing practice is required. Her challenge will be to blend the science of nursing (her strength)
with the art of nursing, especially in this very technologically oriented environment.

If I can be of any further assistance, or provide you with any further information, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Rochelle Lambert, PhD, ANP
