Abstract: Nanotechnology is that field of science and technology which deals
with extremely small structures playing indispensible roles in fields like
medicines, electronics, transportation, space exploration, energy and environment.
The invention of this study started at microscopic level, has now headed to
innovative and complex hybrid technologies. Nano-materials have peculiar
physicochemical and biological properties which made them unique as compared
to counter larger parts. Manufacturing of nano-materials has different approaches
considering the control on size, composition etc. Interaction of nano-devices with
bio-molecules evolves the new field of nanotechnology named as nano-medicine.
Various specific fields are there, in which nanotechnology has a vital role. Drug
delivery at a specific site with lowered side-effects, storage of energy and
conversion of one form to others, production of low-cost and renewable energy,
targeted and controlled delivery of proteins and peptides, are few of those
contributions which nanotechnology has been giving to the field of science and
technology. Oncology, in which to produce images of tumor sites, bright quantum
dots produces high contrast images as compared to organic dyes. In various
disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, nano-particles help to protect central
nervous system. In this review, dentistry, textile industry, and many more similar
descriptive and complex developments are studied and compared from the field of
nanotechnology.
Keywords: Nanomaterials; drug delivery; oncology; neurodegenerative diseases;
dentistry.
