Title of Lesson: All About George Washington

Overview of Lesson: Students have just finished learning about George Washington and the fact that he
set the precedent as being the first president of the United States. Students began by writing down six
issues that Washington faced by being the first president. Then students wrote a CERC paragraph
representing three of the six issues that Washington faced. Then students checked the paragraph in and
began working on their social media project.

Use Washington’s Farewell Address to analyze challenges of the new nation

Overview:
1. Students began by writing down 6 issues with Washington’s presidency
a. Once the students write their issues, they can check them in for points

2. Students then write their CERC paragraph


a. Claim, Evidence, Reasoning and Conclusion
b. As soon as students finish they can check it in for points as well

3. Students then will begin on their social media project


a. See attached rubric
b. Students will chose between Twitter, Facebook or Instagram
c. Students will have to caption their pictures based on what Washington would say

Learning Objective:
Students will be able to represent George Washington’s struggles during his presidency by creating a
social media platform as if they were George Washington.

*Special Populations*
Students are able to be creative and represent George Washington’s presidency through pictures and
images. Other students are able to represent George Washington’s presidency through writing of their
CERC.
