Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught

Lesson Title (Subecjt/Topc): Expression Lesson

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or
edit your lesson?
My cooperating teacher, Dr. Luecke, asked me to create ANY lesson that I wanted to and
encouraged me to incorporate my expertise in ballet/dance somehow. Since they were
learning about storytelling and expression, I wanted to give them the opportunity to express
their own beliefs.

2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
I thought that this lesson was a good time to address objectives concerning presentation and
performance in group work.

3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?

The whole lesson ran smoothly! I particularly loved the discussion that resulted from my
introduction lesson to the project.

4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?

We had to call another teacher to help with technology during the presentations in the
schola.

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed?

I prepared all materials well.

6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will
the future assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
The final group project as the assessment really showed how the students learned the
importance of expressing their opinion regarding issues in our society. Their individual
reflections also assessed what they learned about the importance of persuasion in
presentations.

7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for
the success of the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
This lesson was very successful, in that the students learned about expression in the Civil
Rights Movement AND expressed their own point of view on certain issues.

8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to it’s success?
My preparation and communication with my cooperating teacher helped the lesson run
smoothly.
9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently?
If so, what?
I would give the students more time to perfect their presentations. Other than that, the
lesson went perfectly!

10. Any last comments/reflections about your lesson?

I am so excited that Dr. Luecke and the rest of the 8th grade are going to implement this
lesson into their curriculum next year!
