Scenario # 1 On May 5th doctor Trujillo’s office called patients house to advice of her results.

Her
mother answered the phone and demanded to know the results to her daughter’s test. She was very
upset and ambushed by the call. The mother was not aware that her daughter had a checkup at the
clinic two weeks before. The daughter did not inform the mother because she was only 15 years old and
pregnant. Her mother was very upset with the doctor for not releasing any information to her over the
phone

Scenario #2 April 16th a patient 15-year-old had a regular checkup at a clinic, they practiced a urine
pregnancy test and the results were positive. The clinic decided to order blood work to confirm the
pregnancy and start prenatal care. When the results were in the Doctor’s office called the patients home
and her mother answered. Frighten and ambushed she demanded to know when her daughter had visit
the facility and the results. The nursed that had placed the call was overwhelmed by the mother’s
concerns and decided to disclose private information to the mother advising of the pregnancy. The
mother was not authorized by the patient to received information of the results.

By the physician’s office providing such private information the office violated the patients’ rights and
privacy. Information was disclosed to an individual that was not authorized by patient. If reported
properly this matter can result in a fine of 100 up to 1.5 million dollars.
